Dual monitor, No display issue

I received my 2 dell U2717D and trying to connect as dual monitor setup for my macbook pro 2017.

I connect the 1st monitor via HDMI and from the 1st monitor's DP out to 2nd monitor mini DP. (Mac ->HDMI-> 1st Monitor-> DP out-> 2nd monitor Mini DP in ).

I get the display in 1st monitor but no display in 2nd monitor. Is it coz 2 different type of cables used? I currently do not have HDMI to DP cable.

Have you tried only the one monitor?

I'm sorry, I'm not a Mac Expert by any means. I'm sure there is a hot let it something to set for default.

The other option would be, are the display it the integrated out dedicated GPU?

As far as I know, you can't daisy chain monitors like that. Especially if you want a extended dual monitor set up. Each monitor will have to have their own direct connection to the Mac.

@DrMacintosh can you verify, Mac overlord?

The monitors would have to be Thunderbolt in order to Daisy chain.

@DrMacintosh If I connect a USB C to HDMI to 1st monitor and have the 2nd monitor connected from 1st monitor via its DP out to Mini DP would work?

No, Monitors need their own unique input.

Just get two USB-C to HDMI adapters or whatever the other monitor uses.

Ahhhh! Damn the extra cable. Thanks a lot @DrMacintosh appreciate it.

Should both the cables be same even if it uses two separate ports?

As long as they are in separate ports having multiple HDMI or DP adapters won't matter.

this is not true, display port support multi stream transport which allows you to daisy chain multiple together and have different images displayed on each.

the problem here is that OP is using HDMI which does not support multi stream transport.

Thanks @Pixel5 ! It works with a USB-C to DP. And DP out - Mini DP for 2 nd monitor. No extra port occupied in the Mac. :)

But, fan kicks in very loud all the time for this setup. Worried if I can use it on the long run.

One question though, Should I be connecting the 2nd monitor with a separate cable if I want it as a 3rd monitor?

Ok solved this one too. It required another cable connected directly from a separate port.
