UPS Recomendations

I noticed that a bunch of UPS systems have recently went on sale on newegg, and I have been looking to buy one for quite a while. My knowledge on these is VERY limited though.

 

The area I live in gets power outages and brown outs very rarely, and when they do happen they rarely last for longer than 10 minutes (at most). I'm just looking for something that can power my main monitor and my computer for 5 - 10 minutes so I can save my work and power it down correctly.

 

I was looking at this one on sale on newegg, which seems to be a good price, but like I said I know very little about these systems and this may be way to overkill for my setup.

Your whole system shouldn't draw even 500W so with peripherals and networking equipment you would have more than enough using that unit.

The PFC units are good as they guarantee compatibility when on battey backup, the APC units use stepped approximated sinewave which I haven't see problems with my use of them other than excess electrical noise compensating for it. 

 

Got for +600W for all the peripherals you have for running the system as they also take power.

I actually work for a UPS company, I would recommend APC 1500w. Based on the reliability of the batteries. My company has deployed over 20,000 APC 1500VA single phase UPS units with very few failures.

Just picked up this puppy from Fry's today (on sale)... works great with my Corsair power supply. Also connects to your computer via USB and shows stats such as load in all sorts of measurements. Allows you to change settings as well right from your desktop. Best feature is if power is lost and you're not at your computer it will automatically close out your programs and safely shut down your computer.
