Help with laptop to tv

Mothership

So my Grandma has a 2010ish laptop with a single vga for video output. She wants to watch her british shows on her tv instead of on her laptop but the tv she has doesn't have a vga port. Instead it has 2 HDMI's. So i was thinking i could grab a long vga, and get an adaptor to hdmi. I think i found a setup that will work, but need more opinions before i order.

The links below are the items i think will be necessary.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B014I8TC4E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00K4WCE9O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A14L9DIA3NK9B0&psc=1

Would this carry audio + video well from the laptop to the tv? Is there a better solution. Please let me know!

Also would the usb in the tv power the adapter just fine?

Looks correct. The USB port should work fine from the TV, but if it doesn't then you can just use any USB phone charger you have laying around.

EDIT: As mentioned below, the USB would be plugged into the computer, not the TV.

Looks like that solution would do you good, but the intention is to power the device from a free USB slot in the laptop while the HDMI runs out of the adapter. Of you don't have one it should run fine from any USB port somewhere.

Interesting thought is just get a roku and let the laptop stream to it over the network. The bonus to this it that roku has a bunch of free based channels and even some of the remote streaming ones are free. I used to use one before i got an xbox one.

Don't know how I thought the USB would go in the TV. My bad.

Will look into it, problem is she's pushing up their in age and she uses her laptop fine, but finds it hard to adapt to newer tech. I will see how she feels about it.

Thank you.
