Television for Grandma

Guest

My grandma has a Loewe Art 55 UHD/DC, It's a great television. But not for her. It's too complicated for her. What would be a good replacement?

Requirements:

1: Preferably 55"

2: simple, no smart TV. She doesn't have internet

3: 4K, some shows here are already 4K and it will help her seeing things.

4: Ziggo compatible, her carrier here in The Netherlands

5: CI+ slot

Find anything? Thanks!

PS: a good site I think is Tweakers.net

She can't. She says: quote "you are all 18 year olds abehind your PC I can't learn this!! That's like me teaching you how to make tomato soup or mayonnaise! I'm almost 80 years of age. I'm not going to learn anything new anymore!" She gets offended by the internet :D

She at least needs to know how to at least turn on the TV or change channels?

Then she's all set. What else does she need to learn anyway? Now Voice command will be nice, so she can just talked to the TV and watch what she wants.

She doesn't want smart stuff! She keeps getting Pooja and stuff of that nature. She just wants to have a remote with the buttons:

On off

Volume

10 channel buttons labelled what they are. That would make it easier for her.

Why don't you start putting stickers on it to help her out

Had a similar situation. So, we got my grandpa a TV, and I put tape over all the buttons he didn't need. I left access to change up/dn, power, volume, input, and numbers. Taped over everything else.

Really, it's next to impossible to find a non-smart tv anymore. Especially a 4k at 55".  I'm looking for one for myself and coming up empty.

  • 2 weeks later...

My grandma finally replaced her ‘06 Sony Bravia because the bearing for the cooling fan was worn out and was making a horrible racket. It needed replacing anyway, so she got a Samsung Qled TV, and those are really neat, and after a couple of weeks she understood everything and now even uses the “Uitzending Gemist” app. The Samsung Smart interface is great.

now, my grandma is very intrigued by technology and manages to figure out a lot of things on her own, so that may not be the case with you. I’d take a look at them though.

My Main Build: NZXT S340 - NZXT Kraken X31 - Crucial MX100 256GB - i5 4460 - Gigabyte Z97P D3 - Kingston HyperX Red 8GB - MSI Nvidia GTX 780 3GB - Corsair LL & HD RGB Fans, Corsair Lighting Node Pro.
