Woz U: Steve Wozniak's new online Tech University

WMGroomAK

Steve Wozniak feels that the current tech sector and education system is too intimidating to properly educate and train students to enter the Tech field so he has decided to help by creating a new online learning platform called Woz U.  The curriculum will start off focusing on computer support and software development with additional courses on data science, mobile applications and cybersecurity to eventually be added.

Steve Wozniak, the Apple co-founder who changed the world alongside Steve Jobs, has today announced the launch of Woz U.

According to the release, Woz U will start as an online learning platform focused on both students and companies that will eventually hire those students. Woz U is based out of Arizona, and hopes to launch physical locations for learning in more than 30 cities across the globe.

At launch, the curriculum will center around computer support specialists and software developers, with courses on data science, mobile applications and cybersecurity coming in the future.

Alongside the education platform, Woz U will also offer platforms for tech companies to recruit, train and retain their workforce through on-site customized programs and subscription-based curricula. There also will be a platform for K-12 students, which will be distributed to school districts, that will offer STEAM programs to identify talent and nudge those individuals into a tech-based career.

...

Here’s what Woz had to say in a prepared statement:

Quote

Our goal is to educate and train people in employable digital skills without putting them into years of debt. People often are afraid to choose a technology-based career because they think they can’t do it. I know they can, and I want to show them how. My entire life I have worked to build, develop and create a better world through technology and I have always respected education. Now is the time for Woz U, and we are only getting started.

Woz U will offer an app to help people understand which field of tech they’re best suited for, so they can set up their curriculum accordingly.

As of yet, there’s no word on pricing.

It should be interesting to see how industry feels about these education programs and whether they begin to show a hiring preference from people who have taken these courses.  I would actually prefer that they focused on security a bit earlier, but it is good to see that it would be added.  Maybe, I'll have to look at this and see if I can learn a new trick or two.;)

Probably because the resources required for doing such a thing is cheaper as opposed to other states I suppose.

Because Arizona is hell and no one there attends physical locations in the blazing heat.

A bunch of silicon-valley failures move there because it’s relatively much cheaper.

I can attest to the fact that the heat feels soooo good compared to a humid climate though. Also, Arizona State University trades blows with Ohio State for the largest school in the nation.

this might be pretty nice, hopefully its not just putting more apple sheaple into the world tho

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler
