Video converting programs which support AAC

Hi,

I've been currently trying to get the best encoded movie file for my devices. So far Ive encounted a issues whilst using handbrake to compress DTS/DD/PCM to AAC.

I did some research on the handbrake forum and sadly it no longer support AAC due to legal issues on the windows version.

So what are alternative video encoding software can I use? So far all Ive found is FFmpeg.

Another question all my devices I stream on support flac would that be a better option compared to AAC?

Cheers.

ok so first up handbrake no AAC??? WHAT??HB1.jpg.a42ce4b1cbee261fe297dc9dde70e0c2.jpgHB2.jpg.0ae2d49f2404f9b8a6c2c1a5a9bba912.jpg

anyway that aside, why wont a high bit rate MP3 do?

FLAC is great but somewhat overkill unless you have access to an unmixed studio master to make the most of that format

So lets look at AAC

SonyVegas

Adobe Premiere

 Adobe Audition

and everyone's fav opensource option Audacity

all export to AAC

If thats not the kinda of info your looking for an example of the workflow would help but you could 100% do it with one or a mix of that apps listed above

PS you say youve had "issues with handbreak" well FFmpeg OMG that will make you cry!

If using .mkv files you could demux the file, then recode the audio separately. It's a very quick process using mkvtoolnix, has plugins for mkvextract/merge whioch you will need to demux/remux the files... and foobar is an excellent audio converter and fast.. has plugins for LAME(mp3)/ac3 etc if you need them.

https://mkvtoolnix.download/

or https://www.videohelp.com/software/MKVToolNix

the second one has loads of other helpful software too.

Or try divx10 software... it's not as good in some respects, but it gets the job done. There are some video snobs out there, they will laugh at the use of this, but seriously try it before deciding whether it suits your needs. DIVX is a name, NOT the codecs it uses... it still uses HEVC h/x.265, x264 etc etc and you can play with the bitrate etc, so just try it before deciding if it's not for you.

Yeap, Handbrake doesnt support aac https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=34143. So all those youtube videos you see for best settings are false. Only way is to get aac output is with the mac version.

Also thanks for reply.

Thanks for the reply, does mkvtoolnix also support merging two mkv files losslessy and combine chapters?

Handbrake still offers the LibAV AAC encoder.

It just needs a bit higher bitrate compared to FDK-AAC

I believe so yes, I'm pretty sure you can just drag the items in one at a time (video/sound/subs) and it will stitch them together in that order... there's also a program called mkvmerge if not, and that definately does it.

I mostly use mkvtoolnix and foobar, with the former to demux the tracks I want (video/sound/subs) and then I convert the audio eg 5.1/DTS to stereo and mp3/aac with foobar, and then back to mkvtoolnix again to remux the video with the new audio and subs. Works a treat, been using it for years... mostly for my family if their devices don't support DTS audio.
