4K vs 144Hz

hv0k

Hello LTT,

I'm going to buy a new PC and I have a decision to make, I will have a 8700 and GTX 1080 Ti, so performance is not an issue

the thing is I'm trying to know which to buy, a 4K monitor or a 144Hz monitor im not paying more than 550$ or 2000 AED from this website https://uae.microless.com/monitors/

my usage will be playing league of legends, playing PUBG other FPS like CoD and Battlefield, and Ill buy a wheel and play car games as well.

so what suits me? a 4K monitor or a 120/144Hz monitor?

The general consensus for gaming, particularly first person shooters, is that you'd be better off with a higher refresh rate over a higher resolution.

I've personally used 2 4k Monitors, Dell P2715Q and LG 27UD68-P and currently using a 1440p Acer XF240HU I had them side by side. I cannot see a difference. I also have a LG 29UM58 which is a 1080p UW and I can see the difference between 1440p and the 1080P UW. Also if you didn't know, a 29inch UW is the equivalent of a 24 inch 16:9 in terms of vertical length. So compare it as a 1080p 24inch vs a 1440p 27inch.

1440p 144hz GSync is the best of both worlds, in my opinion.

1080ti is not a 4K card. Yes it will play some games decent, but it's already struggling to get 60fps. I'd say 1440p144hz is still the best of both worlds.

Check out the new Samsung VA panels with HDR. THe HG70 line.

Seeing that your specs will most likely not allow you to have the full experience of 4K constant 60fps, I advise to go with 120 or 144Hz monitor.

The games you playing are also mainly FPS, so higher refresh rate would be a better option here.

Lol I think 240hz is getting a little ridiculous. Competitive gamers use 144hz monitors.

@hv0k If you want to do 4K@60hz then you won't be able to run everything at max settings.

Then it shouldn't be a problem.  But as others have said, 1440p@144hz is a great balance, especially if it has G-Sync.  This Dell monitor would be perfect.

I've had both, currently using a 144hz 1440p monitor... definitely my favorite setup right now. Best of both worlds as mentioned before. If you've never experienced anything higher than 60hz, life will never be the same.
