Mozilla funding ANTIFA?

suicidalfranco

I think it's not right for Mozilla to donate that much money to a partisan organization, both the amount of donation and the purpose are very misplaced.

I don't support the general ANTIFA sentiment (Their borderline Fascist anti-fascist side is a whole other matter), but there is essentially unlimited money coming in from political organizations for such causes thanks to the political situation, why does Mozilla Open source support feel like it needs to support a property email system?

To put it into prospective, A $100,000 earmarked for an opensource email system like Roundcube (Looks like riseup is using a modified variant of this project) would not only alight with the Mozilla Open Source Support philosophy, but would also help other activists around the world.

I don't know if I can say my thoughts without violating the CS but here it goes.

The "antifa movement" isn't particularly new nor it is exclusive to the left. The moniker "antifa" is basically any group of people who oppose fascism, whether it is real fascism or just perceived. But back on Mozilla funding antifa, I don't think it's right for them to lean towards any political spectrum, it would be best as a tech non-profit organization to be neutral or else they'll experience a backlash from people from both ends of the political spectrum.

There is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

oh okay.

i disagree with antifa, but still, i would oppose giving money to any activists, as a non-profit organization. if they have money left over, it would be better spent on cancer research or something.

You can't do that without sliding into politics.

Companies and organization can support who every they want, but Antifa is a terrorist organization in New Jersey and FBI (or CIA, can't remember) internally classifies it as a terrorist organization.

The question is why do they need to do that and how do they get it back, if that's the case.

As per the Community Standards try not to directly talk about politics. Whether this will work out or not doesn't have good odds so expect this thread to get locked.

They are a threat to which people ? Are those people a positive force for your country ? If you answered No to the 2nd question I hardly see anything wrong with the organization being funded but kept within the legal limits of what it can do. And yes I do know that actualy extremist left is hardly sticking to what is allowed by law.

So you justify antifa violence because you believe their opposition are not a positive force in your country? Nice.

Mozilla is a non profit organization which receives money from both private donors and from certain companies for contracts. Wouldn't it be imperative to inform the private donors exactly how their money is being spent and strictly limit it to uses which confirm to their core open source principles ? On the other hand, if they were only using money they earned from corporate contracts, I guess they should be free to do whatever they want with it ( as long as it's legal ). Still, Shouldn't it be illegal to fund a terrorist organization of any form ?

here is the project they are funding https://riseup.net/   not exactly ISIS right?

That T word gets thrown around a lot of times these days on the western side of the big pond. Ones terrorist is another mans freedom fighter, yada yada and so on.

All I am trying to say here is that if we take a look at recent clashes of right and left extremists I could clearly differentiate between the people who carry guns and behave like a well organized paramilitary organization mainly consisting of white young to middle aged men and the other crowd which consists of peaceful protestants of all races and ages and some dipshits who dress in black and want to get all uppity with the cops and right wingers. Are they right to do that? Hello no. However when it comes to the left ,no matter where we are in the world authority is fearful. And rightfully so as the ideas are actual motors of progress and improvement of quality of life for everyone.
