AluminiumTech's OS Support List

AlTech

Hi all,

This Thread is aimed at helping users understand which Operating Systems are no longer supported and which are supported.

To qualify as "Supported" an OS must have been updated in some shape or form within the 24 months and must be officially supported by the developer.

hm, that could actually be handy as a quick reference

What we need now to add to this is a list for how long certain devices will be supported for :P like phones getting android 8, 9, etc.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Depends on exact device but generally no more than 2 years of Major Android Updates (E.g. from 6.0 to 8.0 is best case scenario) .

Security updates also depends on Device. Google has said for Pixel and Pixel 2 that it will receive Security Updates for Up To 3 years after release.

Which build no is Creator's and Anniversary's update

"I'm so glad you're my partner in crime."

"It's the power of best friendship, I know how you roll."

"Chloe, my powers might not last."

"Ready for the mosh pit, shaka brah?"

"Yes, we'd be tearing up the highway. And you'd probably want me to kiss you again..."

"I always wanted my life to be special... an adventure... but not without you."

"Because we're back in action again!"

"With great power comes great bullshit."

"Max you are not crazy. You are not dreaming. It’s time to be an everyday hero."

"I wish I could stay in this moment forever. I guess I actually can now, but then it wouldn’t be a moment."

"If that tornado came right now, I would just sit here and watch for a while."

"You're right. We hella deserve this. Splish splash."

"Can we build another pirate fort and keep the world out?"

"When a door closes, a window opens... Or, something like that."

"Listen, whatever happens, I want you to be strong. Even if you feel like I wasn't there for you because I will never abandon you Chloe. I'll always have your back. Always."

I'm guessing you're not a huge fan of 10.

Windows 8.1 was fine imho. I didn't use it much but it was better than Windows 7 other than the lack of a proper start menu.

True, though I do personally prefer 10 over 7 and 8(.1), I did think that some people were taking the whole "WE HATE WINDOWS 8!" Thing way to far.

10 is ok, but it always has some weird bug that makes it slow, or Windows Explorer bugging out, or something. I recently switched to a new main system, so I decided I liked the lightning boot times of Windows 8.1 (yes on a mechanical hdd) better than Windows 10’s bugs.

Not. Far. Enough.

haha joking aside it was OKAY, but for someone going from an XP/Vista/7 environment it might have been tricky.

I work in tech support.. You'd be surprised by the amount of people that complained.

True, as I did go from Windows XP/7 computers to 8.1 randomly, as all of the PC's in our house were Windows 7 at the time, so it was a bit hard at first, but soon enough I got used to it. Though 10 is still a lot better in my opinion.

Windows XP Embedded Standard 2009 : Extended support until January 8th 2019

Windows XP Embedded POSready 2009 : Extended support until April 9th, 2019

Considering the amount of people who did the registry tweaks to get the security patches for the Embedded versions on their consumer XP, you may want to include these.

For someone I personally know, their software is made for DOS, and it works with other programs that are windows XP. The program crashes on 64 bit machines and doesn’t work on newer versions of windows.

Additionally buying new new licenses is expensive. Last but most expensive... to get a new version of that kind of software costs 10,000 dollars or more PER computer. Not to mention having to learn a whole new program AND convert the files and customers over.
