EXTREMELY SLOW HDD SPEEDS

I have a Western Digital My Passport External HDD. Normally it is very responsive and fast. I lent it to a friend and after he returned it to me, the HDD became very laggy. The read and write speeds are very slow and the response time is also very slow. Copying a file is almost impossible because the speeds are around 1 MB/s. I tried scanning the HDD for any viruses too but the drive is so slow that it is taking forever for the antivirus to scan it. Screenshots are attached below. Please help me as I have important data on that drive.

Thank you

Use the window defrag and optimize drive tool, it could just be really fragmented.

Are you sure this person is your friend?

Yes I'm pretty sure. He is a friend who also knows computer stuff.

I'll echo the others, sounds like it's been dropped or otherwise abused
