I guy I know got an X5675 to 5Ghz at... 1.59 or 1.63v IIRC. And I've heard guys claim they ran 1.66v daily with 0 issues or degradation from launch date till about 2017, but eeeeeh I think that's a bit high.

If the 1.66 volts is on the cores, i will have to call that bullshit then. I know people from back then that ran OCTEAMDENMARK and they told me they have killed X58 cpu´s with voltage above 1.6 volts. So run with that voltage for years sounds like bullshit to me.

Intel max voltage for X58 32 NM cpu is 1.4 volts and volts close to 1.6 or above can kill them in the long run. I would never run a cpu at those voltage for long. My own CPU when i gave it 1.55 volts at 4.75 GHz is benchmark only. For every day use i stay at 1.42 volts.

Yeah, thus why I was pretty suspicious about that. I pump 1.45v through my CPU on the daily, plan to push to around 1.6v if my mobo will let me boot at that (have to enable the LN2 mode and such IIRC) to see how high clocks can go. Don't really care if the CPU is toasted since it's a $14 chip and not my main rig.

1.45 volts shut be fine. I have seen orther people use that voltage range for years. But 1.6 volts is to high for long run.

But with that said. Here are some of the X58 cpu´s OCTEAMDENMARK abused years back with LN2. For how long they survived i dont know.

They should work in any LGA1366 board, those are bloomfield from my quick check, even 1.0 boards should natively support them. Some boards need a BIOS update or even hardware mod to run Westmere-EP.

well unfortunate it, i dont have any other CPU that is LGA1366. So do you know how to flash bios with a flashdrive?

People run 1080 Tis with 6c/12t Westmere-EP chips (I've done it), they can keep up pretty well when OCed. If at all possible you want to get a Westmere-EP hexacore chip, they're 32nm, OC and cool better than the 45nm chips. There are some 32nm Gulftown hexacores, but they're either i7s or the one W series Xeon, and always overpriced because of that. If you're looking for a mobo, just make sure it is newer than a 1.0 (if it is a 1.0, some boards can be hardware modded to run westmere-EP, I did that with my Classified board) and on the X58 chipset if you want to OC.

ASUS RAMPAGE III FORMULA X58 DAN PROCESSOR CORE I7 950 how about that? MOTHERBOARD ASUS SABERTOOTH X58 FEAT INTEL XEON X5680. but the price is kinda high on both of them. 2.5M IDR about 177usd or something. if its worth it i will buy it, but just pair it with a mediocre gpu for a while

Yikes, that is high. I got my Rampage III Formula with an X5675 for $120 a year or two ago. Is an excellent board though.

Hi, I have a x5680 and I was using it overclocked to 4ghz and for now, I think, it worked well, so now I have some questions...

well, when I was trying to overclock, I have used an SPD of 8x, 1600mhz and an uncore of 18x, 3600mhz with an qpi volt below 1.35, it worked like this for maybe, max 24 hours I didn't remember very well.. so... the IMC taked some damage because it was over 2x or maybe not?

other question was about the max temperature, a core was about 88 c° for about a minute, can this cause damage?

so now.. I want to ask if my overclock setting are correct or I missing some step...

I posted the setting and my hardware is:

ga-ex58-ud5

12gb ram 1600mhz 1.65v

last question is, I have set the vcore at about 1.30v, but in the bios the value is 1.264.. why?

thanks!

@Paopao8 Welcome to the forums! As for the voltages and such, I forget what I push on mine other than the Vcore. I have an X5670 at 4.5Ghz with 1.45v (it'll do 4.74 and pass CB15, can't pass CB20 at anything higher than 4.54Ghz), but it's on a 360mm custom loop. You can do 1.4v on most air coolers though if you want to hit 4.4-4.5 or so, 1.35v should get you to 4.2Ghz on most westmere hexacores. As for QPI voltage, I forget what's safe and what's not, my X58 boi isn't my main rig anymore so I'm not worried about burning out the CPU. @Ground should know a lot more, IIRC he bins and benches a heck of a lot of LGA1366 chips, usually knows all the numbers on them.

Thanks @Zando Bob, for the greetings and the info, well.. for now I can only try the 4ghz, sadly my cooler a nh-c12p from an old i7 920 can barely support it at 100% load... maybe can you recommend one? for the other question I will wait @Ground

thanks again!

I ran an X5675 at 4.4-4.5Ghz on a Gammax 400, they're pretty decent. What would your budget be though?

You can get an NH-D15 or NH-U12A for that, they compete with 280/360mm AIOs. IDK if they come with LGA1366 mounting hardware though. If they don't you have to buy it for $16, or if you have the cooler and motherboard invoices they'll send you one for free.
