the problem is that the board's socket can get damaged very easily so changing CPUs often you can bend pins. My gigabyte board came with many bent pins, the previous owner didnt take care of it.

I just bend them back. Though I could use some more mobos... (and now I wanna build a server for some reason when I have no need for one?)

Really, just get whatever you feel like. If you just want to overclock, getting a Quad core might also be worth considering - the x5667 (4x3.06 Base) goes for about 20$. The e5620 for about 5 (mine did only 4.25, though there are reports of these going beyond 5 GHz)

Do you know the quad with highest multiplier available to use? I use sub-zero cooling only.

AS long as you are careful while swapping the CPUs nothing should happen.

While we're on the topic of xeons, consider adding this https://ark.intel.com/products/80555/Intel-Xeon-Phi-Coprocessor-7120A-16GB-1_238-GHz-61-core to your 6 core overclocked xeons. They'd make a good pair and the lga 1366 has more PCIe lanes than mainstream CPUs so you can run a GPU alongside and get 16 lanes for both.

The Rampage III Formula looks even nicer IMO. I was super lucky to get a great deal on one. Here's mine before it went in the system:

its basically x86 but in GPU form factor. So this gives you 61 cores to run your x86 programs but it turbos up to 1.3Ghz. It has a 300W TDP even with 61 cores because power use scales exponentially with frequency.

Argh, I wish the older ROG boards would have looked as good. I think my old Maximus Extreme (x38) looks a bit too colourful

(though it has crazy heatsinks. IF only the colourscheme would work :D)

Yeah. I have an old AMD one like that, it's a pretty busy colorway.

Well, the board above is the board I had in my old System, the one I'm using right now has a decent colourscheme but its anything but the greatest board for the socket.

It's looks nice but there's something about those earlier ROG boards, the three I listed, that's just gorgeous. I'm hoping the REX 1 NB block fits REX 2 for some chilled water action.

Your board's PCIe layout sucks. In 1 of my boards, i have a low profile GTS 250 1GB GPU, SFP+ NIC/intel quad port NIC, USB-c and USb 3 card (x4 PCIe), random sound card (PCI). I use almost every single PCIe,PCI slot in it, and probably another PCIe card i forgot to mention.

That's a very patriotic mobo right there, whether you're from the US, UK, NZ, or any other country with an RWB flag (I think France too).

I think it's also the classic look. It feels like a "good old days" board, like old Macs and such. You may not be the original owner, but it brings a sense of nostalgia. Same with old jeeps and such, they bring back memories of cool shows you watched as a kid (or if you're old enough what things were like when you were a kid). It is strange how hardware can have personality, almost. This is also why I like the 900 series and Z170 better than the new 10 series GPUs and Z270/X399 and such. (But AMD Ryzen is dank).

If only those weren't that damn expensive. I'm currently pretty much out of Budget, else I would have bought the Rampage II Extreme + 8GB DDR3 + i7 920 + random cooler that popped up locally for 150€ a couple days back. Its already gone too...
