Ha, yea...it took me a couple solid evenings to get my X58 rig to its settings via that method. But it's been super solid the whole time since I did, so that's been nice.

 

I am super excited to OC the SR-2. Even on air (nudge) the thing is going to be a pain in the ass in a fun way.

on an entirely unrelated note, my x58 sabertooth has arrived in working condition, and my x5680 booted first try! before overclock, it achieved 1612 points in Cinabench R20

What's the CB15 numbers? I'm getting around 960cb currently, 770 or so stock I think? And up to 1040cb redlined.

Those CB15 scores are noice! Is that before or after the spectre/meltdown stuff? I disabled those mitigations in the registry using InSpectre, didn't seem to make much of a difference tho.

I like going through each 'group' individually-- low cpu mult (like, 10x), low mem mult (6 or 8x), each with decent volts, then raising BCLK in steps of 10 then bench then adjust voltages. Once you get to the 1.4 ish V range then that's where you're at, but you can fall into 'bclk holes' where more volts don't do anything but much more freq adds stability. Then focus on memory mult-- leave bclk voltage where you found it but dial it back to stock, key in the mem mult for your eventual desired setting (eg, 200bclk * 10x mem = 2000 mem speed), whatever volts you think it'll run at, then step bclk back to that already tested speed. Then, dial back down, key in a CPU mult you want to run (eg 23) and step up bclk, adjusting cpu volts each time for stability.

@GrockleTD ^^^ There's how you find your max BCLK the proper way. 

Once you do that, you use multipliers to get your speeds up, what you set those to depends on BCLK, since clocks = BCLK x Multi. As for voltages, you'll need to up vCore, possibly VTT, DIMM voltage, mebbe a couple others. If your board is like mine and has offsets for some stuff, you'll want to hop into Prime95 with the CPU at stock, and see what the voltages are in HWiNFO.

I haven't been following the thread. What motherboard, RAM, CPU, and PSU? What type of OC were you dialing in manually?

X58 sabertooth, x5680, TT Smart RGB 700W, anything really, the only thing i managed to get working was the MemOK setting which actually increased memory clock from

1086 -> 1333

A long while back when I dabbled in FSB(BLK) overclocking I found success in dropping the multiplier, dropping the RAM by 266MHz, then increasing the FSB until the RAM was +266MHz again. This resulted in a stable system from my testing. Each time I'd drop the RAM 266MHz and increase the FSB until it was back up ~266MHz. Then I'd just tweak voltages to compensate.

 

I'd really like to try overclocking a E5-2670 on my old, run down, Sabertooth X79 motherboard using this method.
