Does it hold an SR-2 tho ?

Holdup it's a really funky name uh.... here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E1JGFA0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tis two NH-U9DX i4 coolers. Mount to the server-style backplates with threads on some LGA1366 boards (such as the SR-2), LGA2011, and LGA2011-3 boards. Also absolute god tier mounting system compared to my CoolerMaster V6 GTs, which would perform much better but are absolute hell to mount so I replaced them with these lol.

Awesome, thanks! Amazon to the rescue so that I don't have to tear down my existing rigs while verifying the SR-2 works!

I'm high off actually shipping stuff out for once (i7 920 to Crunchy, some toasted stuff, GPUs, and a working mobo to Hat), aaand looking at the money I need to dump into my X58 rig, let alone getting the SR-2 a case and PSU and such, the odds are defo in your favor. If I track down the other VRM block and get them cleaned up I'll make a decision. ?

If you're in the position to actually use the blocks within a reasonable (well, as reasonable as projects like this get) timeframe, that's another plus. Again, I don't like having the stuff just sitting around with nobody to give it the use it deserves ?

Thanks! Definitely interested. My plan though is to first verify that the board works (see: air coolers), then verify that the virtualization idea will work before OC and water cooling starts. I'm hopeful that the VM and GPU passthrough setup issues people reported with the board have been resolved in the intervening 8 years. It just needs to work well enough!

Then...oh man, then the WC shenanigans can start.

Indeed, was running dual 295x2s, with a 1000 and a 750 watt PSU. The 750 was begging to die and the 1000 was damn close. Now I have 4 290Xs about to be custom looped but I'm not making the same mistake again, going dual 1200 P2 this time. 750 watts per 295x2 was hell, but 400 watts per 290X is gonna be something else. 1500 watts of GPU then, 1600 watts of GPU now. Must prepare, lol.

(Exposition moreso for who Zando was replying to, not really Zando).

Ah, it was @bimmerman

ah crap. I have 2x R9 290, 1x 1080ti, and 1x 5870HD (for the lolz). Might need that dual PSU even with my new 1600W unit.

I wonder though on the 295x2 whether you can passthrough each GPU separately. That.....that'd be quite the space saver.

re: 750D. The store I bought my 900D demo unit (got for $150) has a 750D demo on the floor. I can ask the price next time I'm there but shipping probably will suuuuuuck.

Indeed. I may go for the Anidees tho, we shall see. 900D isn't actually sold anywhere, even Bimmerman's was a display model.

Yep. I've been chatting with the Anidees support staff and they're actually quite responsive and helpful. It will fit an SR-2 but you lose all of the cable passthroughs and might not be able to use the gap from the side panel (see where the ribbon-looking-covers are? Where those butt up to)....that's a maybe, not a confirmed no. In other words, you will need to route Mobo/CPU power from either the top or the bottom, not the side.

It is MUCH smaller than the 900D and you also can have radiators without losing drive cages. So that's nice. I chose the 900D ultimately because I got a screaming local deal on it, and I know it'd fit dual thiccccc 480s + more instead of any 360+any 480, or dual 480s with some modding or careful thickness experimentation.

Also, my SR-2 arrived in a box in bubblewrap. Am.....a bit concerned, but it looks fine and no pins are bent. Once the air coolers arrive  (hat tip @Zando Bob) we'll see!

Still waiting on memory to arrive. C'mon, ebay guy.....

also am furiously googling 295x2 virtualization right now.....for reasons.

One of my SR-2s has the box, the other came in bubble wrap. I'm confused as to who throws away the box for a board that was $550-650 new, but apparently people do.

Agreed...though IIRC my UD3R's board is either at my parents' house or has been long since tossed. I lost out on an SR2 with its box (and all accessories!!) by making an offer via ebay to save $25. Someone did buy-it-now and won out. Didn't come with CPUs whereas mine does, but still, UGH live and learn.

I could probably source one from somewhere. Really sucks though, that's also one of my favorite cases.

One of my buddies(the one who got me into this whole custom PC thing) built his system in one, actually.

I think I've decided at this point that my next build will be done in a 750D. That's actually the first case I fell in love with ❤️

i found an obsidian 800D at goodwill but I didn't buy it because I didn't need a new case at that time and I didn't realize how much the case was worth.

Me, I still like my old Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01. It's best and it's solid :D I changed the configuration many times with this case, still good :D

I bought it 14 years ago :)

I had 2 cases Stacker STC-T01 (one black and one silver) before and I sold one (black) to a member's SMP forum for their motherboard Tyan Thunder K8QE, 4-way Opteron 800 series and it fits perfectly in this case with little modification (remove a little holder part) :D

Yeaaaaaah I think the TT "Smart" PSUs aren't the best....

Price has nothing to do with it tho, AFAIK they're just bad PSUs. I've had 0 issues with the CX550 I got for $50, and my CX450M I got for around the same price even powered up to a 980 Ti without choking, also no issues so far and that was the first PSU I bought.

You sure it ain coil whine? Solution to figure out which it is: unplug D15 fans for a few seconds once noise starts, if it continues, you know ehat it is, RMA the fans. Noctua will ship them to you free of charge within a week and won't require your current fans shipped back to them at all.

Well, I’m not saying it hasn’t worked through some pretty demanding stuff (gtx 770, 1060, oc’ed 920) also not sure it’s actually the PSU, but it is suspect, but again still not certain.

On the note of coil whine, I almost wonder if it’s the mobo? Didn’t seem an issue until after I OC’ed the CPU

Uh..... do mobos have coils to whine? I assume so, and if they do then yeah it could be the mobo.

I thought coil whine was a VRM thing? But yeah I don’t know if I’m going to be annoyed or laugh if that ends up being what the issue is

Coil whine is coils whining/buzzing because they vibrate at just the right frequency under certain load. My RVII makes a low buzz under some types of load because of this, and it's audible since I don't have an air cooler drowning it out. Sometimes coil buzz or whine can be louder than your air coolers though, and that's when you hear it.

it can be psus, motherboards, gpus

what @Zando Bob said is about right, due to certain switching frequencies, the transformer gets overloaded and you get that whining sound we all hate
