Also, anyone interested in an X58 Micro? It's the most lackluster of all X58 mATX boards and has a funky 8 pin plug location but I mean, it's an mATX board and it runs just fine (haven't tested with Xeons yet tho). In great condition too, I'm just looking to downsize my parts collection for the sake of my sanity. It was going to go in a smol rig I'm building, but I think I'll use my i5 2400 there because that's proven to be hackintosh friendly before, and its board uses a UEFI BIOS vs the old legacy style. 

And @GrockleTD I'd be down to yeet my X58 Classy SLI 3X your way, I did mention that in discord but I'll tag ya here too. I'm planning to get an X79 Dark so I'll need someplace for that EATX board to live, and the only place is my Air 540 which currently has the X58 Classy in it, so that will be homeless. And I'd rather keep the 4-Way since it's badass-er. It is a V1.0 so it won't work with Xeons other than the W3690 unless it has the Westmere-EP mod, but that's dead simple to do. If you have a soldering iron you could do it yourself, else I can probably clear a spot and do it quick. May have some thermal pads left over too so I could replace those while I'm at it if they're in iffy condition. Board hasn't had any issues when I was using it. And the northbridge will not overheat, lol.

One million dollars. Or more uh... $109.99 sound fair? totally not the price of an EVGA CLC 280 that I would like to have again so I can put it on the X79 board I plan to get as a top mount in my Air 540

 

Tho tbh can easily go lower lol. I paid about $106 for it with CPU IIRC. $90 something plus shipping, eh too lazy to dig through eBay purchases again.

Yes, but literally last time I touched a soldering iron was in the grade of fourth, and that was soldering regular sized wiring, forget sensitive electronics

Ha! Still want to see if I can threaten my msi board into working, also, I desperately need a new chair. (Literally got told by a doctor that I need to improve my posture, current chair doesn’t allow this) so it may be a couple weeks before I can get to you with the purchasing of said board

The X5670 for a while could be found for like $12 but the X5675 is generally a better bin with more multipliers, the unlocked i7 skus are nice but most of the time if you have a decent board with a decent bios you'll be able to get the same performance with the limited multipliers using just the base clock.

 

My X5675 at 4.5ghz doubles the cinebench scores of my overclocked i7 930 which was a total potato. I've been looking at GPU upgrades from a GTX 1080 lately just because at 1440p it's nowhere near bottlenecking the cpu in RDR2. I won't end up doing it since there's no worthwhile upgrades for a 1080 when I paid $299.99 new for it almost two years ago though...

 

Picking up a Westmere is totally worthwhile, I nearly made the terrible mistake of spending $400~ on a Ryzen 1500x build which I had in a cart on newegg. Instead I picked up a X5660 and another 6gb of Samsung ECC memory for $40 and outperform the 1500x in every way aside from single threaded performance where I match a stock 1700 instead.

 

They can be more difficult to dial in but it's much more easy to toss a $13 X5660 in a drawer because it was a loser than a $100+ i7 980x/990x. Many of the 45nm Nehalems are made more valuable by drilling a hole through them and selling them as a keychain. Stick a good cooler on it like an NH-D15 instead and shove like 1.4v into the vcore and you will see it pick up big time running in the mid 4ghz area.

Indeed. EVGA has kept their boxes very, very similar though. Changed a bit with Turing, but my Pascal boxes from them just have an updated font and the colors were made a little brighter, other than that it's very similar. I still have the boxes for a 1050, 1050 Ti, and 1060 at home, should snatch some pics tonight. 

Sadly I don't have the boxes for any of my X58 stuff, even for my SR-2s I only have the basic RMA box for one of those. My brand new X58 Classified SLI 4-Way didn't have a box either . I don't understand why people pay hundreds for HEDT hardware and then do not keep at least the main component boxes, aka mobo/CPU/GPU.

1000W G3 and a 1600W T2. I used to have the 550W and 650W G3s but those went into rigs I gave away, still have the box for the... 650 IIRC.

Looks like the microcode all core turbo BIOS mod? That's been around.... as long as X99 Xeons have existed?

Still reeeeeeeally can't advise chinesium boards. Any actual word on reliability/longevity of these boards? Also AFAIK none of them will handle a big chip with a proper OC very well, meaning you lock yourself out of any better CPU options in future, other than Xeons stuck at lower clocks.

In my experience, X99 chips don't really come into their own until they're above 4Ghz, at least for gaming.

That F@H? I folded a bit yesterday, other than that I haven't folded at all lately . Too many driver issues and for some reason Core22 WUs cause the card to underclock to 1600MHz even if I have it OCed to 1850Mhz. Drops PPD to 900K vs the 1.9-2M PPD I get with Core21 WUs.

Also @Crunchy Dragon hahahahahaha yaaaay USPS is closed today so reeeee must ship out the 920 tomorrow

Also also X58 Micro is going (also tomorrow) to @The Blackhat so he can come be an HEDT nerd with us now

What were you running before? I know you've gone through a lotta hardware, wasn't 100% sure if any of that was HEDT or not.
