if you want to squeeze out more points to beat a certain number, if you set cinebench to realtime mode priority you gain a nice chunk ?

To be fair, even I was corrupted by the allure of the waifus moar cores for less moneys. I moved to a 2700X on a B450-F and later a Crosshair VII Hero Wi-Fi (becuz lmao no SLI without X chipset). Overclocking was so utterly depressing that I moved back to X58 (which is sad, the CH7 is a gorgeous board, just no CPUs existed in its gen that could even challenge it whatsoever without LN2), swallowing a large performance cut purely to actually enjoy the platform. ?

Now I'm on X99 which is faster than the 2700X ever was and is satisfying to OC. 

we won't talk about power consumption ok?

Yeah, i just needed the cores tbh, i stream pretty frequently and because amd cards have awful encoders on them i have to use X264, my old 4930K did pretty well previously buuuuuuuuuut the extra 2 cores allowed me to move up from 1600x900 30 frames at 4500 bit rate up to 1600x900 60 frames at 6000 bit rate so im happy, if i had the money i would have gone X99 tbf, much more fun to overclock and all, but this was much cheaper and also allowed me to go itx since i got a killer deal on a b450 i strix and all :P

But you could have yoinked a 1680v2 ?
 

Though moving platforms because of a board is mood lol. I totally skipped X79 because I got my X99 Classy for $99 on a B-Stock sale. Quite the deal for a board of its caliber. Then I went with an overpriced 5820K because lol I needed a CPU. To be fair, didn't need to move to my 5960X for any practical reason, but it's just the most obtainable big boye chip for this platform. 6950X is uh.... they're slightly overpriced rn. And I didn't have the budget when Fry's was selling brand new 6950Xs for $500.

I could have done, and in fact it would have been a bit cheaper, but i wanted to do itx tbh, that way i can just have one strong system that i lug back and forth between the other halves and my place rather than a kinda ehh one there and a good one here

 

tbf i've done that before so i get what you mean XD but that's a solid deal for an x99 classy, i miss my old 5960X X99 UD4P build tbh, unfortunately i cooked the memory controller on that thing and had to sell the board and ram to get a working pc again (ended up with a Z600 with a pair of X5670s, i then later bought an X58A-OC and popped some E5640s into the Z600 and that became my dads system when i sold it to him XD)

Edit: on the bright side, 4GHz uncore stable

Every time I thought my uncore or overclock was stable, it wasn't. It took over a year and two cpus before I got my X58 setup dialed into something that is 100% stable and hasn't had any issues outside of the ones that I specifically cause by using stupid mac pro dimms that don't post at default settings on my motherboard. My X5675 has some pretty strong cores and I've got it to boot and validate at 5ghz but the uncore is just unpredictably unstable above 3200-3400mhz.

 

My X5660 was better for uncore but the last core on that cpu runs a solid 10-15c hotter than the rest when you lean into it with an overclock. As soon as you approach intel spec for vcore, you also max the temp sensor at 98c. I lapped it trying to get it to perform a little better, and that helped but the local craigslist had a X5675 that I picked up for a dollar more than I paid for the X5660. It frequently idles at ambient temps with a junk 212 LED, doing server things like it was designed to.

 

I watched the latest LTT video on the new 3990x and was compelled to finally commit to doing a single thread R20 test after seeing the 3990x pull 500cb...

Man the new stuff really hauls, I've been seeing those microcenter deals on 3700x's along with some local deals on AM4 boards that I've seen in the past months is getting really attractive. I'm curious if it would even be worthwhile though since dropping from 1440p to 1080p in RDR2 nearly doubles my fps, I think I'd need like a 2080 super to make a worthwhile dent in performance in that game which probably wouldn't be a good choice for an upgrade on X58 from a GTX 1080.

Alright, so, I'm finally home. I got into the bios and looked for CPU VTT but there's nothing labeled that. :/ Here's all the options I can see.

How about other olds HEDT with 925X / 925XE / 955X / 975X / X38 / X48 ?

 

And I don't know if 875P was HEDT because it was first chipset for Pentium 4 Extreme Edition. I have one (I had used it 14 or 15 years ago. Now, they are in my collection ? )

regarding cases-- anyone know what the likelihood is of holes lining up between SR2's HPTX and the SSI-EEB form factor? The Lian Li O11-XL case can fit the 14x14" SSI-EEB Dominus Extreme nutso board, which is fairly close to the SR-2's 13.6x15" shape. Not having a gigantor case (e.g., Anidees) would be a nice bonus....but I can't find much info. SR-2 owners plz halp!

the dominus is eeb? eeb is meant to be 12"x13" isn't it?

I think it’s CEB? Either way it’s only an inch off HPTX. I assume mobo screw holes are standard, same as how ITX, mATX, EATX, and XL-ATX all share the same 4 base mount holes.

after a quick google CEB is 12x10.5", i think the dominus is probably similar to EEATX but eeb ish? it looks taller than it should be i guess, possibly eeb but an inch taller or something

Indeed. HEDT/Server chipsets are closely linked, and the CPUs are often cross compatible so they blur the lines a bit. Double props for a dual CPU board, those are always awesome.

What's with the lowly single so-dimm slot at the bottom right of the board? Is it a cache slot for raid?
