My SSD died :(

Recommended Posts

I had a 2 year old 480gb sandisk ultra II drive in my desktop and sadly it short circuited the other day.  I was wondering if there is any way to restore it without voiding my warranty.  I'd rather not rma because it would take more time, but I can do that.  I have a backup 2tb hdd in my pc, but I had to reinstall windows onto it, but it's much slower and louder.

I might not know what I'm talking about but I'm gonna say it anyways

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen r5 1600 w/ stock cooler

Motherboard: ASRock AB350M Pro 4

Ram: GSkill Aegis 8gb 3000 MHz

Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 480gb SSD and Hitachi 2tb 7200 rpm HDD

GPU: Gigabyte Windforce Rx 460 4gb

Case: Xion Black MicroATX Mid Tower Case

PSU (Needs to be changed soon): Logisys 480W Generic Psu

Monitor: 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: Corsair Strafe RGB Cherry Mx Silent

Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB

Headset: Sades over-the-ear headphones w/ Mic

By yourself, I don't think there's much you can do.

You could try taking it to a data recovery specialist and they MAY be able to do something with it. Big emphasis on may, since if the short affected any of the nand flash then you're doomed.

I seem to like any products who have the same software and hardware maker, as long as it's not Apple. Weird. I like the Surface Book and the Pixel phones, but most definitely don't want an iPhone or another Mac (I'm not saying they're bad, though).

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones) but please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I doubt it was my psu: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/2cDwrH/logisys-power-supply-ps480dbk because even though this thing looks pretty janky, it's been really reliable in my build for the past year and a half, so I honestly have no idea.  It doesn't show up in the bios, it doesn't show up as en external drive in my enclosure and frankly it just seems dead.

No idea.  I wasn't screwing with it or anything, just trying to overclock.  I reset the bios and went in and boom dead ssd.  I was wondering why though for the past 2 weeks whenever I tried to overclock my cpu that I have booting problems.  I should've realized and stopped but I guess I have to see if it's covered by the warranty.

Nope gonna keep it until black friday/cyber monday.  0 problems for the 1.5 years I've had it and low heat/noise EDIT: it was $13 when I bought it :P

Except for the fact that this thing probably just killed your SSD.
