How to attain 120hz from diaplay port from laptop

Can someone tell if its  possible to attain 120hz from a laptop on an external monitor using hdmi or display port? I am using a alienware 15 r3 with a 1080 p 60hz panel coupled by gtx 1070!! There is no official documentation regarding it.Could someone help me with that?

If it's DP 1.2 or 1.4 or whatever it should be able to.

HDMI, probably not, DisplayPort, certainly.
