Search inside threads

IAmAndre

Hi,

I would be surprised if this feature hadn't been required at some point, but I think it would be useful to be able to search for a specific keyword or a specific user inside a topic. This would be very useful in threads with thousands of replies like the ones with benchmarks if you're looking for some specific hardware. What do you think?

by the way in the top right where it says search, you can change it to `this topic` then type in stuff, it's pretty neat you should check it out.

I don't have this feature, maybe because I'm on mobile.

That's unfortunate, maybe you could spoof your UA so you can use the desktop site on your phone

You'd have to go one page at a time searching, his point is on threads with a mass amount of replied.

Ctrl + F for "find on page" on desktop.

Find on page for mobile browsers.

As @Lumi said, I don't want to go through all the pages manually

That's helpful but it would still be a lot more convenient to have this feature implemented.

Embedded forum search has always sucked, google is best :)

I would agree that adding "This topic" and "This forum" as options on mobile should be done. Its among those idiocies with this software that leave mobile users hanging.

The problem is that for "this topic" and "this forum" searches to make sense, the search box has to be on the page, whereas at the moment on mobile it takes you to a new page to search. In theory, this can be solved by adding the search box to the page, but in practice there's nowhere to put it. I'm open to suggestions for how to fit it in, but I don't want to just shove it in the corner somewhere.

I think there's plenty of room on the page. One way to do it would be having a search input at the top, before the topic title, and the same at the bottom, after the sharing buttons. Another way would be having just an eye magnifier icon at the top and the bottom, that would then display the search input when clicked on.
