Choosing laptop for PUBG

genexis_x

I'm choosing a laptop for my brother. He needs a laptop that can run PUBG decently and for university use (unfortunately, desktop isn't a choice) So far I had chosen a few options to him:

1. Asus Vivobook Pro (2kg+0.53kg charger)

-7300HQ, 1050 4GB, TN

2. Dell 7567 (2.7kg)

-7300HQ, 1050 4GB, TN

-7300HQ, 1050TI 4GB, additional 128GB SSD, TN

-7700HQ, 1050TI 4GB, additional 128GB SSD, TN

(waiting for 7577 with IPS)

Other options (these laptops doesn't have a good battery life so charger is needed to bring along):

Lenovo Y520 (2.5kg)

-7700HQ, 1050 4GB, IPS

-7700HQ, 1050TI 4GB, additional 128GB NVMe SSD, IPS

Commandos F15 (2.64kg)

-6700HQ, 965M (TI) 4GB, IPS

Commandos G15EXIII (2.35kg)

-7700HQ, 1050TI 4GB, IPS

HP Omen 15 2017 (2.7kg)

-7700HQ, 1050 4GB, IPS (good quality one)

Acer Nitro 5 (2.7kg)

-7700HQ, 1050TI 4GB, additional 128GB SSD, IPS

Requirements:

-good build quality

-can run PUBG at 1080p low settings

-prefer 12GB RAM (can upgrade later), 4GB VRAM, i7 HQ (i5 HQ is fine)

-prefer not heavier than 2.5kg (weight of laptop+charger, can go higher if the battery life is impressive since charger isn't necessary to bring along)

-display doesn't matter much (1080p is a must of course) but IPS panel is welcomed

-prefer less gaming look

-below $900 (can go slightly higher if needed)

Let me know if you have other suggestions or thoughts.

A GTX 1050 4GB is a waste, you can save some cash and get the 2GB one and save money.
But I recommend a 1050Ti either way. It will get 40-60 FPS on medium to High settings.

Can't, the only Clevo partners here are Illegear and Commandos

PUBG eats up to 3.5GB VRAM at low settings so 4GB VRAM is needed, nevertheless thanks for your opinion!

I mean, I don't think the 1050 can even use 4GB of Vram, it's not fast enough.

Helios 300. $1050, GTX 1060 and has a 7700hq. IPS Panel, lower quality one, but still decent.

Tbh I used to think this but with older GPUs like the 770, but titles like PUBG prove us wrong. The game gobbles up VRAM whether or not the GPU can produce the frames, and then performance is hindered even further.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Well either way I still suggest the 1050Ti, it's not that much more expensive and it will get you 10-20 FPS more

Way over budget. The cheapest costs MYR5629 here which is about USD1347.

It's expensive here. Jump from 1050 to 1050TI cost AT LEAST USD144 more.

Are all those laptops priced similarly or is one of those cheaper than the other? The Asus Vivobook Pro (I'm assuming the N580VD model) is pretty good I'd say. It doesn't have that striking gaming looks. The Acer Nitro 5 is not a bad performer too (saw and tested one recently). What I'm wondering though, does your country sell IPS versions of Dell 7567?

Daily drivers:

- HP Elite x2 1012 G2: Intel Core i7-7600U, Intel HD Graphics 620 + Aorus Gaming Box GTX 1080 eGPU, 16GB LPDDR3-1867, 256GB Toshiba NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD + 128GB Toshiba Exceria UHS-1 U3 MicroSD, 12.3" 2736x1824 + HP Pavilion 22cwa Monitor 21.5" 1080p IPS, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

- LG V20 (H990DS): Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (ARM-based), Adreno 530, 4GB LPDDR4, 64GB eMMC UFS 2.0 + 64GB SanDisk Extreme UHS-1 U3 V30 MicroSD, 5.7" IPS LCD 1440p + 2.1" 160x1040, Android 7.0 (LG UX 5.0)

Other devices:

- Lenovo IdeaPad Y400: Intel Core i7-3630QM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M SLI, 16GB DDR3-1600, 120GB Kingston mS200 mSATA SSD + 1TB HGST Travelstar 7K1000 7200rpm 2.5" HDD, 14" 768p, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit + Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit [retired]

- Dell Venue 11 Pro (7139): Intel Core i5-4300Y, Intel HD Graphics 4200, 8GB LPDDR3-1600, 256GB SanDisk X110 M.2 2260 SATA3 SSD, 10.8" 1080p IPS, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit + Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit [retired]

- Acer Iconia W4: Intel Atom Z3740, Intel HD Graphics, 2GB DDR3L-1033, 64GB Samsung MCG8GC eMMC, 8" IPS WXGA (1280x800), Windows 10 Home 32-bit

- Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML: Intel Atom Z3580 (x86-based), PowerVR G6430, 4GB LPDDR3, 64GB eMMC, 5.5" IPS LCD 1080p, Android 6.0.1 (Asus ZenUI)

They have different prices.
Dell 7567 only has UHD IPS panel, they will not change the other model to IPS, instead they will start selling 7577 with IPS

That sucks. I guess the Nitro 5 would be a better deal for him and it also doesn't have that intimidating gamer looks too.

But the Nitro 5 is a bit heavy and a charger is required to bring along since the battery life is average (about the same with Y520). He doesn't want a heavy laptop.
