Laptop modding issue

Ok so I have a Acer aspire 7739 which had a broken battery and screen so what I'm doing is tearing it apart and making a case to turn this into a make shift desktop for my sister but I've run into a snag, it was working to where I pluged in an external monitor and it displayed but now it won't display on the screen and a trick that worked a few minutes ago was unplugging the CPU fan till it displayed then plunging the fan back in but that didn't work either. It is still working I know that for a fact but can anyone help me with why it won't display?
