EDITED: ASUS ux305ca vs xps 12 (old flip version)

using laptops to study, mainly microsoft office

 

Which one should I get for these factors:

 

• Good keyboard
• Good battery
• Silent/not hot
• decent trackpad? idm a mouse if needed.
• Longevity. This will be the main factor imho

Specs of each? I'm assuming they're all 3rd gen-based Intel Core CPUs

I would probably choose Dell Latitude E6230 because I like that old style keyboard more than new Thinkpad keyboards. I have a E6430 which is pretty much same as E6230 but bigger.

Hmm I'm actually now looking to choose between a ux305fa with core m3 or a dell xps 12 (old flip version but haswell i5 cpu) 

 

Both with 128gb ssd 4gb ram.

And battery life seems equally strong for both (used)

 

The reason why i moved on from the three choices is because all the refurbished laptops battery are poop,they last for 30mins to an hour.. Sometimes good deals look too good.

 

But the asus and dell are certainly ok deals.. I mean 380SGD for the dell and about 400SGD for the asus i cant go wrong

 

Which one should i get now?

Can the RAM of the Dell XPS 12 be upgraded later on? Cuz I kno that the Asus UX305 doesn't. The Haswell i5 should perform slightly better than the m3, so I'd say get the Dell XPS 12 instead.

I have a UX305CA right now.

 

Keyboard: Great. No complaints.

Battery: 4-5 hours.

Silent: Well aside from coil whine (I tried 3 units, 2 models.. all had it) it's silent. And the coil whine isn't that bad. There's no fan, or HDD to make any noise.

Trackpad: It's glass and works great, haven't had any issues with it. The click is a bit loud.

Longevity: Performance... it has a Core M processor, and not a high end one. I'm already noticing some lag on mine (owned since January 2016)... I wouldn't advise getting a Core M/Y laptop if you plan to use it for a long time. As for durability, it's made out of aluminum and there's very little flex, it's solidly built.

 

I can't comment on the XPS 12 since I haven't used one, but there's a quick overview of the ASUS.

Nope.. cant be upgraded.

 

There's an xps 13 3rd gen though (ivy bridge?) for 350SGD.. 

Not much reviews on the old xps 13 other than the haswell  version so im nt sure to get this or the xps 12
