How is the Ryzen 5 stock cooler?

minervx

Will it allow for overclocking to 3.5-3.6 GHz?

Does it make a lot of noise?

The Spire should allow overclocks of up to 3.6-3.7 Ghz, depending on your ambient temps. If you have a really good chip, you can probably get 3.75 on the Spire.

Increasing voltage and LLC will definitely reduce the Spire's ability to keep things cool though, so substantial overclocking is out of the question.

I used the Spire myself for a couple weeks while waiting on the bracket for my Kraken cooler, and I will say that it allowed me to overclock my 1700 to 3.7 Ghz. Temps were fairly high though.

Lastly the cooler is very quiet unless you have a very aggressive fan curve. Even then the cooler does not get obnoxiously loud.

Would it suitable for a low-noise build?

I can tolerate some noise when I game, but when I run DAW's, I want it to be almost-silent.

I wouldn't use stock for low noise. Check BQ coolers, lots of them are quite silent and the LP ones are often cheap

im thinking of going with Be Quiet Pure Rock Slim.

Beyond $25, I may as well just get a Ryzen 7.

there are 2 variants depending on which ryzen 5 you buy, The one for the 6 core ryzen 5 is a bit bigger. I have the one listed in my sig (4 core, smaller cooler). It's generally better than an Intel stock cooler, and actually screws in. In my opinion rather get a decent aftermarket cooler and aim for 4Ghz

I'm going for the R5 1600 by the way.

Would it be a pain in the ass to try the stock cooler and then reinstall a new one if I don't like it?

For silence I recomended a 1600 + fan less cooler or taking a nh-d15 and removing/turning off the fans.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious
