Two cooling-related questions.

R176

I have two cooling-related questions!

First, I have an additional fan in my system mounted on the side panel, but only have one fan header on the motherboard. Currently, it's just running via the PSU directly so I'm pretty sure that means 100% all the time in this case. I'd like to be able to control it. Would a splitter allow me to control both fans separately? Or would I need a hub? What would you guys recommend for something cheap?

Second, I'd like to get a better-than-stock cooler for my 7700 (non-k so no overclocking) with a relatively small case. Nothing crazy, keep in mind I only have one cpu-fan header on the mobo and very limited air-flow in the case. Any recommendations for something cost-effective and small, but better than this stock cooler? See pic for the kind of space I'm working with.

If you only use 2 fans then a splitter will do. Otherwise you need a hub.

CM's hyper 212 evo should be a cheap and cheerful choice.

I think I need something lower-profile than that, it looks really tall, and this is a very small case.

You can use a fan splitter with some form of low noise adaptor that'll lower the power draw of the fans.

a llower profile cooler i would suggest a Be quiet! Shadow rock LP or a noctua NH-L12 or NH-L9. Maybe if your budget allows some form of AIO?

Your PSU is 150mm wide and the 212 evo is 9mm wider than that. It should still fit in... To be safe there are lower coolers like the Cryorig C7

Which case is it?

And for other question, each mobo header can only control one fan. Using splitter or hub would mean all fans connected would be controlled as if they were just single fan. If you want more control, you need hardware controller. Either one with knobs, or one operating with software (CAM or Link).

It's an Asus "M32CD" Case, from an asus prebuilt.

And gotcha, so I can get a splitter, and control both fans as if they were one fan? That works for me.

H7 or M9 might fit. They are both good coolers. And you can measure how much spare there is between socket and side panel to make sure what fits.

As for splitter, thats how they work. One of heads is all wired and others have either power and ground or power, ground and PWM (depending if its PWM or 3pin splitter).
