[Theoretical] HDMI to Compsite adapter?

xxmememanxx

So, I saw a video online about how to export composite video using an arduino. If I could get an HDMI signal into the board, could I then somehow convert it? I  just wanted to know, since making one of these from scratch would be really cool for me.

does arduino have such a hardware decoder for that kind of thing ? you are trying to use an arduino basically as an HDMI to composite converter ?

Home PC:

CPU: i7 4790s ~ Motherboard: Asus B85M-E ~ RAM: 32GB Ballistix Sport DDR3 1666 ~ GPU: Sapphire R9 390 Nitro ~ Case: Corsair Carbide Spec-03 ~ Storage: Kingston Predator 240GB   PCIE M.2 Boot, 2TB HDD, 3x 480GB SATA SSD's in RAID 0 ~ PSU:    Corsair CX600

yes. do you think it would be possible?

honestly im kinda out of my depth with these kind of hobby electronics, but this looks like pretty much what you are trying to do

possible? maybe but is it worth it when you can have a HDMI to composite converter for 10 bucks ?

i assume you would need to do a lot to get HDMI into the arduino.

  • 2 weeks later...

Arduino is far too slow for HDMI decoding; you need a decent FPGA to get anywhere close. Might be possible with a raspberry pi or similar as this has the DAC etc for composite output already but I'm not sure if you'd get HDMI in easily.

Unless you're looking for a project it'll be cheaper to buy a commercial product.
