What is garbage?

For decades we've just thrown out everything we didn't need, but when you actually think about it, the vast majority of it should be going somewhere else.

• Recycling: all glass, metal, plastic, wood/paper
• Compost: all food waste and other biological wastes
• Specialty: batteries, electronics, etc.

True "garbage" is honestly hard to come by.  I can see clothes fitting into that category, assuming they're not good enough to donate, or things like a clay sculpture or garden pot, but it's crazy to think about how little actually would fit into this if we dealt with the rest properly.

 

But, I'm probably missing a few things, so what else do you think is really garbage, assuming you could dispose of the things I've mentioned above in other ways?

The only thing on that list that can't be recycled, upcycled, or reused is the used tape, pyo.

Physical copies of Final Fantasy XIII, people that like FF13, and people who say "pyo". Not naming anyone specifically as he's right above me, but straight into the trash is where they should be pyoing.

Well it comes to a point where it's just a question of how hard do you want to try.  Sure pens and earbuds could be broken down into the plastic and wires/ink, and have the ink salvaged for new pens, but I think it only makes sense when the energy saved is more than the energy it takes to do it

Some of it I've seen them throw in a box and ship it to somewhere, probably Africa or something, or maybe they recycle it around here

 

i've seen their thing using some sort of acid to remove the adhesive in the depot

africa is the best recycling place, yes.

I use floppy disks and CDs as coasters for my mugs.

How i wish all countries have proper facilities in the disposal of compact fluorescent bulbs. A lot of the times when people drop CFL bulbs, they just use the broom to sweep it but it's making things worse. When someone sweeps a broken CFL bulb, they're scattering the mercury within the CFL around the house. Most likely, that broom will be reused again. 

 

Or better yet, ditch the CFL and use LED light bulbs instead. They may cost more but they consume less power than CFL and they last longer and is not bottlenecked by constantly turning it on and off frequently not to mention it doesn't have toxic heavy metals like mercury.
