Most of the Apple fans I know argue that the screen is very good and that they prefer it to a Samsung panel.

Which isn't entirely inaccurate if it's a different panel than what's on Samsung's phones, right? ;)

I wonder if Apple went into the game console market with Apple TV, they'd deal Nintendo a pretty grievous blow? That A10X is quite powerful, and should easily surpass the Tegra X1, while the form factor is perhaps better considering Apple's ecosystem (instead of undocking, just play on the phone).

I’m honestly not thrilled by the iPhone X. Yes, it has a near-bezelless display, but that widow’s peak really bothers me. I wouldn’t have bat an eye if they made the status bar black in an effort to make it blend it like how the Essential PH-1 does it in many apps.

No TouchID is also a potential deal-breaker for me. I tried facial recognition on a lot of phones including my ill-fated Note 7 and while it has gotten much better, I still doubt it’s a worthy replacement for a fast and reliable finger scanner, especially since it requires a more deliberate action of holding the phone up to your face. It’s good in that it makes accidental unlocking less likely, but also not too great for convenience’s sake.

And it’s a grand for the 64GB base model. No phone is worth $1000. Not the Note 8 and certainly not an iPhone X.

With all that being said, the iPhone 8+ looks really solid. I personally am not too big on bezelless displays so I might jump on board with that.

So people where making a big fuss over the iPhone X not displaying the carrier name in the status bar... something Android has been doing since almost forever.

I don't understand how this can be called "bezel-less" i still see a bezel just with a black border around it.

Its not that different to the border around a iPhone 6 or 7. maybe when you put glass over a bezel it makes it bezel-less?

I was expecting to see something like the other bezel-less devices like the samsung S8 which has a screen to the edge and no bezel.

Is Apple redefining what a bezel is here ?

I really, really like the new Watch series 3 and the Apple TV 4K, new iPhones? Not so much but I'll probably upgrade my current 7 Plus to an 8 Plus someday. Sorry but I don't have any feelings for the X, not with that design IMHO

Having your Watch stream music directly is dope af, sadly e-sim is ultilized so probably no chance of cellular working in my country for a while

The Apple TV 4K uses the A10X SoC from the iPad Pro, so they put it to its maximum use by supporting both Dolby Vision and HDR10, which is a massive plus. And the price is really well too, considering that people who buy this would mostly stream movies so 32 and 64 gigs isn't much of an issue

iPhone 8/8 Plus is just 7 Plus with a little tweak on the material and hardware. But my goodness that new space gray color looks sick. Plus supports for HDR contents from both Dolby Vision and HDR10, wireless charging and fast charging just makes me crave for this device more. The design? I don't give a shit about bezel-less, I feel satisfied with my 7 plus, and I don't see me changing the design anytime soon

Samsung makes many different variants of their displays. Just because it's made by Samsung doesn't even necessarily mean it's a panel found on their phones. So, the screen on the iPhone can be better than ones found on Samsung phones to said individual.

If cost is no object, iPhone X looks like a great phone.  However, with many of excellent phones at less than half of its price, between two products that do very similar things, I can't justify the cost.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Will probably not be getting the iPhone X (well, work will give me one, but I probably won't use it). It looks like a filled spec sheet that incorporates all of the features I hate in Android phones and looks to complicate the user experience (which iOS has been doing since version 7).

Now the phone looks incredibly high quality.. so I'll give it that. Panel I'm sure is very good, but I don't care that much, the panel on the 6/7 is already great, never seen the need for high resolution OLED on a phone. Starting price in Australia is $1500, and no phone is worth that.

Biggest issue (aside from iOS 11) for me is lack of home button/touch id though. Maybe FaceID will be awesome, maybe not, but as it stands at the moment I can unlock my phone while I'm pulling it out of my pocket. By the time I look at my phone, it's already unlocked. And I rarely look at my phone face on - its usually a sideways glance.

"Raise to wake" is an annoying feature on every phone its ever been included on (including iPhone 7) and that leaves me with pressing the button to wake the phone as I'm pulling it out of my pocket and then positioning it so my face is frame. And that's not to mention when I'm using the phone when its completely dark (ie I'm in bed).

Wireless charging is nice, but...meh? Apple have withheld from wireless charging for so long that I assumed they were waiting for technology to mature or developing their own solution. So years of holding out for it, and it's a normal Qi solution. Meh.

I mean, just check out google if you don't believe me, but my argument wasn't just that it's old, it's that it's inferior tech. What Lightning and USB provide is better all around compared to Aux. Getting rid of the aux port is controversial, sure, but I think it was the right move. It's helping phase out Aux for something better

Please explain to me why 3.5mm is worse than USB/Lightning.

So far you have only said it is old, which is not a valid reason.

Not in the slightest.

I have already met people who defended this because the audio jack “is analog” and thus, “is outdated and completely crap”.

To those people, I suggest you read up on the human ear and the differences between analog and digital.

To me, the downfalls of the iPhone X is caused by the exact same thing that caused the downfall of the iPhone 7, compromises. The iPhone 7 loss the headphone jack. Albeit, not something major for some people, but still annoying considering we're not at the point of which wireless headphones are ubiquitous, but whatever. With the iPhone X, we now loose touch ID and the home button just so we can have this funky shaped edge to edge display. In its place, we have facial recognition which I'm still not a fan of. Facial recognition works great on laptops, but not exactly in a phone where you won't always be looking at it in ideal angles. On the train I take my phone out my pocket slightly to unlock and change songs. If I had TouchID (I'm still rocking the original iPhone 4), this would a great alternative to the passcode as I can unlock with my fingerprint as I pull out the phone. With facial recognition, I would have to stare awkwardly at the damn thing and that's just not an elegant alternative.

I'll stick with the SE with my next upgrade.
