Smartphone with fake dual cameras

A Youtuber has made a video on some of the smartphones with fake dual cameras. Instead of actually using both cameras, it only uses 1 of them.

This is something I only expect from cheap iPhone 7+ clones from china for $99.

not a reputable company.

 

however, even the IPhone 7+ doesn't use both cameras in low light, where a better picture would be from a cropped normal lens.

this is why its not worth it to buy a cheap phone period. cheap phones will have one problem or another and wont last as long as a $700+ phone,

 i went though four $300 blu phones in 4 months. my s7 has lasted me 8 months with zero problems so far

I spent $400 on my Asus Zen Fone 2 and it's 2 years with no problems. Now the battery is not holding charge. Time to replace battery...

iPhone beta here. only got it cause i had the note 7 and returned it due to the battery issues. it was in between phone cycles and i had no phone to use

They only made it because of the dual camera hype.

 

Honestly, I don’t get it. Just because it has 2 cameras doesn’t mean the image will be better.

 

IMO, the best way to do dual cameras are either the super-wide angle lens on the LG phones or the monochrome + RGB hybrid module popularized by Huawei.

 

I’m not a fan of the zoom solution employed by Apple, Samsung and OnePlus among others. Sure, they work great in bright light, but in low light, the quality seriously craps out a ton, particularly due to the smaller sensor and aperture, resulting in very poor light sensitivity in comparison to the main camera, hence why in those conditions, a crop from the main sensor is used. OIS will not help, by the way, but it is useful for clearer shots like with the Note8. 

 

I like LG’s approach because it gives much more flexibility in focal length ranges and allows for new perspectives in terms of composition. But my personal favorite is the monochrome approach because it can affect every single photo you take by taking 2 exposures and then blending in detail and light from the monochrome shot into the main shot, resulting in better dynamic range and more detail. Sadly, the latter is only nailed by Huawei so far. Others like Essential tried the same, but usually fall flat on their face because it’s tricky to nail that post processing of 2 shots.

 

As a bonus, on the Mate 9 and P10, because the monochrome sensor is of a higher resolution, it can do a 2x crop zoom that’s similar in quality to those zoom cameras I talked about, and since it’s a crop from a larger sensor, low-light performance is better.

and i'm here waiting for a phone that implements all 3 sensors: normal+wide+mono; hope i don't have to wait too long for that to pop out

Mine's still alive and still using till now. Planning to get myself a P10 and maybe I'll give this Zenfone 2 to my mom.

Sadly, I am of the opposite vein.

 

I’m growing more and more dissatisfied with my Moto Z every passing day. In fact, my mom got the Honor 8 Pro and I honestly like that phone a lot more.

For me, at full charge, the battery will completely drain at random times. From 100% down to 0% in a few seconds to 1 hour or less. I can still use my phone, just that it needs to be constantly connected to a battery bank.
