What would you do in my position?

So, in July I bought everything for my build except for the graphics card. I was under the impression that GPU stocks and prices will return to normal around now, and was planning to get the RX 580 Nitro+. However I've contacted Sapphire and they said that they have no idea when the market situation will return to normal, or when stocks will become wildly available.

I think that it is a huge waste to have parts sitting around for more months to come.

I am thinking of dropping my target and go for the RX 560, which seems unaffected by the market situation. I did toy with the idea of getting a GTX 1070, but I'll give up freesync and will blow my budget at their current market prices.

What is a first time builder to do?

As further consideration my build consists of:

Ryzen 1600

Asrock AB350 ITX

Corsair SF450

LG 23MP68VQ monitor - freesync and @75Hz - 1080p

Edit: I also wish to consider the re-selling value of whatever I end up with. Or should I just forget that...

Edit edit: I am using this build for photo editing and also play games, such as Fallout 4, Mass Effect, Doom, i.e. all the recent amazing games I've been missing out on with my ageing laptop.

Everyone on here be showing off their rigs, so here I go:

Well a RX560 will manage to drive 1080p somewhat decently enough, Personally speaking FastSync with good nVidia cards renders unnecessary the use of FreeSync, I speak out of experience I have a freesync monitor but fast sync render it needless... but a GTX 1070 / 1080 (price difference between them is small enough to consider hehe) would be a bit too much to a common 1920x1080p monitor maybe?

Frankly the way I see it get a cheap card now if you can wait say another 10 months for a distant Volta chance or something, it will be enough for ESports at  least.

I'm in a very similar situation. I built an R5 1600 system as well and I just put in an extreamly bad GPU. I hoped that the prices will go down soon. But even though the current situation isn't that bad anymore, I still have to wait to get a new mid-range GPU for a reasonable price. Until then I try to find a cheap used GPU so I can play some less demanding games on lower settings until I get a new GPU. I only play less demanding games anyways.

I would just get a 1070 and live without FreeSync.

How does it compare to the RX 560?

Which GPU did you buy?

Do you have one you would recommend? It needs to be less than 266mm or 10.5"

I wanated to spend almost no money so I got a 560 Ti. The card works fine until you boot into Windows. xD It can't automatically download the drivers and when I try to install the drivers I downloaded from NVidias webiste, it crashes. But I will try it again since NVidia released new drivers since I've tried to install the card. So at the moment I'm back at the old crappy card I mentioned above. If the 560 Ti doesn't work I'll probably look out for some NVidia 600 Series or HD 7000 Series/R7 200 Series cards.

Was it really worth waiting four months to maybe save $100 on a GPU?

Not every is employed I suppose...

There aren't any cheap second hand GTX 970 in the UK. Or rather I refuse to pay £170+ for a 2 year old warranty expired card that originally cost £240 :P

Looks like I'll go for the 1070. I've found a Superclocked black edition of it for £408, and is new. Is that a good deal? Will my PSU handle the system? (i think it will, but would like a second opinion.)

that seems really expensive in pounds. thought they'd be more like 300-350. not sure as i live in aus but, as gbp exchange rate is normally nuts that seems pretty bad as you can get a 1070 for around 600 AUD here

Edit: exchange rate is currently 1.6 so it should be around 380 gbp, just buy it
