WB profiting of the death of one of their devs?

z31drifter

Synopsis:

Executive producer of Shadow of War Michael Forgey loses battle with brain cancer.

WB releases Day1 DLC immortalizing Forgey in orc form for 5$ and claims that $3.50 will be given to the Forgey Family.

Fine print states that only the $3.50 from the DLC purchased within 45 of the United States and the District of Columbia will go to the Family.

Shadow of War Twitter account confirms that all other purchases will not be going to the Forgey Family and will be retained by the WB.

The're probably laws that govern private donations in those states. Buy TB offers a simple solution of pledging a donation to a charity organization equal to the amount of 70% of all other sales.

Regardless of where the purchase is made 30% ($1.50) is going to the WB.

That's really a piece of shit thing to do.  Yeah I get it you have development costs for this, but just fucking eat them and come out looking like heroes.

Agreed. But I think the fact that only a small percentage of the DLC sales are going to be eligible for donation to the family is the more grievous transgression here.

It's a good thing you brought it up because I no longer listen to Mr. "WHO THE FUCK ASKED ARE TRAPS GAY?" Bisquit anymore. Yes he still makes decent points otherwise (like this one) but boy is he such a fucking moron sometimes.

Now is it a state problem rather than WB's own decision. That seems way to specific to be a decision made by WB. One state and the district of Columbia.

Potentially, But social pressure to get WB to donate the rest to a cancer research would have the added benefit of funding research.

Its not only that, simply purchasing the base game carries at least some endorsement of DLC, IMhO

Then don't even buy the base game. Gamers can complain all they want; but if they keep buying the game + DLC, then the developers are just going to keep doing it because that's what's bringing them money. People like Linus have been saying for years, your wallet is the biggest tool to change the way these companies operate.

They make so much, they should give all of it to his family. Not just $3.50.

Speaking of WB. There used to be a WB store in this mall I went to. Lots of cool apparels and stuffs, like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, etc...

Is that on top of the 99€ for the gold edition?

I know the first game was popular, but you don't reap the benefits of that by ripping off your entire consumer base.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

I believe that it is additional to the gold edition but not sure.

I like it. Its worse than giving the 5$ to the family, but STILL it is very helpful. The family will get money, and thats what matters, i dont care about the WB.

Im not a all or nothing kind of person, and as far as i am concerned, this helps the family.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

I would agree with you if it was $3.50 from the total international sales. Not just a portion of a country.

I've worked at places where people on medical leave (directly caused by the job) have been fired for being "sick" for too long.  Don't for the life of me understand how this news is bad in anyway(beyond the individuals death naturally).  The company is straight up giving gobs of money to the family.  Not looked at this beyond the OP statement, so don;t know what I'm missing here.  People die everyday and no one gives a shit, so I don't get why this is bad.

Its the deception. WB clearly states that 70% of every unit purchased will be given to the family. Where that simply is not true. I.E. advertising a charitable donation and only giving a small percent to the charity.
