Stop Mining Start Folding - LTT-folding team will be overtaken soon

Hi everyone,

 

I'm a member of the biggest German speaking folding community. We are going to overtake LTT-folding-team in about a month.

We want to encourage you to fight hard for rank 12. For this we need a strong LTT-folding-team.

I hope you can gain as many new and old members as possible to start folding (again).

So you want people to stop making money through Mining, and start doing something which just costs them electricity with no financial gain?

The whole point of folding is to give up your SPARE CPU time, asking people to do more than that is a big stretch... and I don't think you'll get many takers. I don't even fold anymore, except for when I'm using my PC as a media player and listening to music maybe, as it puts my electric bill up by a substantial amount to have folding on all the time.

Fair warning, once I am back State side.  LTT going to get a big boost from folding power for a bit.  Two more months to go here in the desert.  Then I will bring all seven of my GPUs online for a folding free for all.     I could not risk running the big ones for four months with me away from them.

I'm happy that there aren't only ppl who consider money as most important. 

Health and doing good cause is much more important, I think. Providing support for health research is a perfect combination of both.

Yes.  Though, the points will not be as high for CPU folding.

Also, don't put all the threads on the CPU to folding.  It will lag up the system big time.  Need to keep one open for the GPU and one for the OS.

I need to get back on myself but my 1080 and 960 is not enough to compete .... Almost need a Linus and Luke lets get our F@H on video. Actually its been quite a while since they did a F@H/Boinc video iirc the last video was when they were at the house.

A 1080 and 960 would make around 1 Million PPD. Sure that's not enough to compete with the big players but it would make a very valuable contribution.

 

I use a 1080 TI myself but can't afford to let it fold 24/7 because of energy price (~30 USDct/kWh).

The problem is that the CPU makes barely to no points. at most, maybe 60.000 points while folding with a gtx 1070 for example will earn you ~700.000 points a day.

I can get about 500k ppd but it makes my room so toasty, thankfully fall is here so it will start getting colder and then I can start folding again

I could look around for the dual xeon users like me and recruit them. I can get 100k-150k ppd on just my cpus. It still isn't as much as a gpu but most people also have a gpu

Yeah, I'm not saying people shouldn't do it... just that you can't expect everyone to do it when it costs them money to do it. Donating spare CPU/GPU time is one thing, but to have your electric bill be something like 20% higher or more is a personal choice.

I think I stopped about 2 months ago at 87 mil, with it having been so hot out lately in Iowa (90-98F) with both my ac and pc running it jacks up my bill. Ill have to wait till it cools down outside, Ill start up again then.

I be back at folding soon.  Still stuck out in the sand box for a bit.  Once back state side, think I will off load two 1070s and flip in a 2nd 1080Ti into my GPU army.  I should be able to manage somewhere past 3-4mil PPD.

Ive been managing a good 400k-500k PPD with my 980 ti running 24/7. cant complain I guess.
