PG348Q or PG279Q

MaxPlaysGames

So. Ive never had an Ultrawide. But my mind kinda set the idea into my head that i need one.

So i still use a 21" 1080p monitor, how much more space do i have with a 27" 1440p and how much more with a 34" 1440p ultrawide.

A 1080ti should run both pretty good, but im more concered that if i play like RS 2x im gonna run out of space on a 27" 1440p monitor

Snip

you keep saying "space".... are you talking about resoluton? desk space? spacebars?

1080p is roughly 2.1 megapixel, 1440p ~3.7 megapixel, 1440p utlrawide ~5 megapixel.

Desk space is a whole other story. those 34" ultrawides are huge.... but your 27" shouldn't be all that much larger than your current 21"... nothing to the point where your desk wouldn't be able to handle it anyways.

Desktop Space. Like Opening a Browser, and a Game next to it for example. I'd like to have the game run at a good size so its not too small, while also not making the browser look super tiny.

well, that factors in relative size:resolution.

the short answer for that is that the 27" and 34" 1440p monitors will have pretty much identical resolution:screen size ratios, so things should look pretty much identical on either monitor, but the ultrawide will give you roughly 35% more space to view those things in.

That being said, why are you considering running games and browers on the same monitor at the same time? you have that 21" there. Get your choice of either the 27" or 34" for gaming, for SOLELY gaming, then throw any browsers or secondary programs onto the extra monitor you have remaining.

Well for one, thats an imac. so i wouldnt be able to use the mouse on both. and second, i actually forgot that lol.

But that leaves the question if i can run 2x RuneScape clients at the same time without one overlapping or one being super tiny on the 27"

Look. This is 2560x1440 vs 1920x1080 ... I don't have the ultra-wide 3440x1440 but imagine one extra window opened beside the other two on the 2560x1440.

Kinda what i expected, the height is more than enough, but the length is a bit too short, it would squeeze one of my runescape windows. Guess ill go with the ultrawide. Thank you

do you intend on playing only runescape..? is that the only reason for these upgrades? because you're talking about buying the best (and most expensive) gaming monitors on the market for a game which doesn't even fully tax a smartphone lol. If that is your goal, buy two, MUCH CHEAPER, 27" 1080p monitors... or even 24" 1080p monitors. heck. buy 3 of them and do a 3x1080p gaming experience if you want. Tons of people do that. would be good if you're into racing games, flight sims, and that sort of thing. even if you're just into normal RPG gaming, or games with poor 3x1080p support, you still have an excellent single panel in the middle to run your games on, then two extra side ones for whatever else you wish.

Back to RS specifically though, its hard to really say because the answer to your question is one of opinion.... there isn't really a factual concrete answer to it. there are always cheaper 1080p ultrawides to consider as well.

Of course not. But its one of the reasons i want to go ultrawide.

Honestly, i dont like multiple monitor setups, since they arent 100% connected the cut inbetween would bother me.

And the 4k Asus 144hz monitor isnt out yet, so i cant go for that.

You also have to remember.... a higher resolution does not make things on your screen bigger... it actually makes things appear much smaller (various programs and games can usually be scaled up to compensate no problem, but not always). If your concern is being able to fit two runescape windows on a single panel, i would highly recommend a 1080p ultrawide (Someone just released a 144hz/165hz 2560x1080 monitor... maybe it was LG?) unless you're just oozing money and buying a PG348Q is no big deal for you (in which case you kind of can't go wrong with that lol). Even when it does scale, Runescape on a 27" runescape monitor will take up exactly the same amount of space as it would a 27" 1080p monitor (half of 27" is going to be half of 27" regardless of how many pixels that actually takes up). resolution is not a factor in this sense.

You mentioned the 144hz 4k panel... well when we get GPU's, and HDMI/DP capable of fueling those monitors and they end up being released, there is also talk of them releasing a 200hz 3440x1440 version of the PG348Q as well, an "upgrade" if you will. Unsure if you feel like waiting for whenever that will be (likely alongside Volta would be my guess), but its probably not in the too far distant future. But again, if you're the kind of guy who has that kind of money... get both :D

I know that. But since due to higher resolution it still is bigger than 1080p space wise, not the runescape clients, but the whole desktop.

Honestly, if the upgrade for the pg348q was here, i'd go for it. But im already waiting a year to get a new set up, and now its time to stop and finally get it.

That helped. Because it shows me, its too small. You can costumize your own Interface and its not big enough to fit into there for me. But first time i seen it on a 1440p screen like this. That really helped heaps thanks.

To each their own.... but when I bought my 980ti last april and pascal dropped in the summer, i died a little inside.

That being said, I'm also not disappointed in the level of performance my 980ti is still giving me. So getting a PG348Q now isn't necessarily a bad thing either. Just because something better may come out doesn't mean you're going to have a bad experience. Its just the knowing that eats away at us haha.

I'm personally waiting for a high refresh rate 4k ultrawide (like a 5120x2160 100hz+ or something like that) before I pull the trigger on a flagship monitor. Its probably still a couple years out, and game support will be even better by then, but i'm lookin forward to it :D

Also if you are the kind of person that digs watching movies or tv-series then the 21:9 experience will blow you away ;)

Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.
