Help With Choosing Best Fans

alanp1995

So I built a new computer last week, currently I'm looking at investing in a few fans, maybe 4/5 fans to put in the case for better airflow and some LED lighting for effect. I would prefer 140mm fans just to use up all the space available for fans. My parts list is:

PCPartPicker part list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vFfNCy

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI - B350M GAMING PRO Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: Samsung - PM961 128GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card
Case: Thermaltake - Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic - S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

I'm not sure if I should go with white LEDs or Red. I light the brightness of the White and as for red, it's basically the theme that's there right now since the Motherboard glows Red and the memory is red but white could be nice to light that all up. Opinions would be awesome.

I've added some photos below.

Cooler Master offer a good selection of RGB and static colour lights in their Masterfan Pro series. There are also variants for airflow, air balance, and air pressure I believe. They're cheaper than corsair's fans, and just as good.

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

more than 2 or 3 case fans don't do anything for cooling.

only for looks.

IMO it's all about ratios. You can have 3 drawing in and one pushing out but it won't cool as efficiently as say, 2:1 or 3:2.

Cool I'll have a look at those now! Any suggestions in relation to color scheme?

I was thinking the same tbh. If you have a look at the image I attached. My case currently has 1 x 140/120mm fan option at the back of the case and another 4 x 140/120mm fan option at the top of the case. What you suggest to do?

Well said. Although mine has a huge fan for intake at the front then one at the back which I am looking to get. The the other 4 fans are bunched together on one side meaning they all need to be pulling the same way....

I have 4 intakes and a single exhaust...

Actually, correction to what I said earlier. The Masterfan Pro series is just RGB I believe. For single colours, cooler master's Sickleflo and Jetflo fans are also fantastic. The jetflo is the better of the two. Since your build seems to be red, I'd suggest red fans. Perhaps 2 pulling in and one pulling out for your case?

Where would you suggest installing the 2 fans? Maybe at the top instead of installing 4 I could install 2? Closer to the front side?

I'm not too familiar with cooling on mATX cases, but you might be better off putting your intake fans in a place where they blow across your GPU as that could help with temps.

What are your current temps and what do you think of the stock case fan?

If you mainly want lighting, an led strip would do a much better job.

I'm still tweaking around with overclocking both the CPU and GPU but both so far are very reasonable with a slight OC. As for strip lighting, I already have like 10 meters of it stuck to the top of the skirting boards around my office which shines up the walls illuminating the whole room. Wanted just fans for the case. But I'm based in Ireland, if you could find me a nice strip which delivers to me I could work something out on both fan and strip sides. Cheers.

There aren't many green led fans and most of them aren't that great. That being said, I'm not finding any decent green led fans either--I'm having a bit of trouble finding good shops in Ireland.

Spectre Pro's are alright though: https://www.custompcparts.ie/bitfenix-spectre-pro-led-green-140mm-computer-case-fan.ireland.direct.gaming.components#.WZ4uWD6GNaQ

If green leds aren't that big of a deal and you're fine with just a black fan, PW2's are better: https://www.custompcparts.ie/be-quiet-pure-wings-2-140mm-computer-case-fan.ireland.direct.gaming.components#.WZ4utz6GNaQ
