Buy overpriced 1060 or just go for the 1070?

I'm confused at the moment. Mid range GPUs like the GTX 1060 are way too expensive for their performance due to bitcoin mining, or sometimes they have no availability at all. This makes me wonder, should I just buy a 1070 and game in 2K resolution? It might cost more, but at least it will be more accurate to its value. What's your opinion?

1070 is also overpriced, 1070 is like $50 less than 1080

You know you can game in 4k on the 1060 just fine.

It's just the people that do things like leaving the anti aliasing on at 4k that think it won't play something in 4k. Not even knowing that AA was made to smooth out low resolution configs and you don't even need it at 4k.

 

Jay did a great video on how ultra settings add very little and don't look much better vs just medium or high settings.

Guys. If the OP had the money to buy a 1080 then he would buy a 1080. The notion that you need to choose a card solely based off performance per dollar figures is such a narrow, thoughtless idea that I don't even know why you bothered to contribute it.

 

A GTX 1070 costs anywhere from $150 - $200 more than a 1060. A GTX 1080 costs twice as much as a 1060, and not to mention draws 50% more power. Didn't even bother to consider if the OP's computer could accommodate a 1080, let alone should it. Who cares about performance per dollar if you can't even afford it. That's like saying instead of buying the base model Ford Focus, buy the fully loaded Mustang.

 

There are multiple reasons to consider a gpu including but not limited to: performance per dollar, performance per watt, cost, power draw, performance, size, amount of vram, cooling performance, etc. So I don't understand why this forum is generally always so quick to inject an opinion with no explanation and no consideration of use application.

You'd be better off buying a 980 Ti.  The performance is about the same, but the price hike isn't as high.  I'd make a $370 offer on that.
