Total makeover

Joveice

Hello,

So I got a powerful computer that I start to get annoyed by as It's a 980Ti 2x SLI. (which gives more issues than plus)

My plans are to get a new case, new motherboard, new cpu, new ram and new gpu (so basically total makeover). I want to water cool both gpu and cpu with a custom loop.

I'm gonna take my hdd, ssd's and m.2 ssd's, psu and case fans with me.

Theme: White and black, but not a real must.

GPU: I'm looking at a 1080Ti from EVGA (not sure which one yet, which is best for water cooling + overclock?) Waterblock form EK (I'm not planing on it looking nice I just want it to be the best option)

RAM: Ram is ram, so I'll go for something well known but not overpriced.

CPU: Currently looking at a i7-7740X (No I don't want AMD). So for this people tell me HEY it's only 16 lanes get a i7-7700k or a i7-6700k. Um? aren't they also just 16 lanes? I'm currently using a i7-4790k and sli without any big impact..

And if lanes are so important which one should I look for? I really wanna play cpu intensive games and the i7-4790k had big issues at 4.5ghz in arma. + Same as with cpu, just a good waterblock.

PSU: Got one

Mobo: Gigabyte X299 AORUS GAMING 3 ( I really don't want a bad motherboard )

Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D (Any good for water cooling?) or a 900D as I have seen water cooling in that one.

Watercooling: Soft tube as I have no plans to give myself a hard time and I don't care about look anymore. (recommended size etc) what radiators, how many, how big etc.

As of now I have a thought of a 900D with this:

EK-CoolStream XE 480 Quad

EK-CoolStream XE 240 Double

Both in the bottom, will a 1000W psu fit in a 900D with that?

EK-XTOP Revo D5 PWM

EK-RES  X3 250

EK-Supermacy EVO

EK-FC1080 GTX TI FTW3 - Nickel (Can I use this with the cpu block? that one has a copper finish)

EK-FC1080 GTX Ti FTW3 Backplate - Black (I don't need this right, they fit on the default one?)

12x EK-ACF Fitting 10/13mm - white

EK-DuraClear 9,5/12,7mm 3M RETAIL (for a 900D with 2 radiators in the bottom)

6x Corsair ML120 PRO LED White 120mm

That 2fan Y splitter and that 4fan splitter

Thoughts on anything and help about cpu?

This is just my opinion, but if I was going to X299, the minimum I would buy is the 7800X.

I'd get the SC 1080ti or the FTW3 1080ti.

Why more cores and less clock? (not out of my price range as I haven't made one yet)

I just don't see the point in the 7740x. The only reasons I can think of as to why somebody would buy it is if they're either an extreme overclocker or somebody who would want to upgrade to the higher LGA2066 CPUs in the future.

Also what will you be doing with this computer?

The 7740X is a more expensive 7700K with a X slapped onto it, a 100mhz factory overclock and some more TDP

How would it be to overclock?

Better, but it's not worth the extra money. IMO I would rather go Ryzen 5 then 7740X

All my friends that has Ryzen and others I have talked with says there are a lot of issues with them in a few games..

Why an EVGA 1080 Ti specifically? EK makes full cover blocks for the cards with reference boards, aswell as the FTW2 and FTW3. EVGA also has Hydrocopper versions of their cards with water blocks already on them. The FTW cards have better VRMs than the reference design (obviously).

RAM can give better performance in some applications. Just get any kit with Samsung B-die, and you should be able to overclock it quite well. If you're looking for a black and white kit, the G.skill Trident Z comes in black and white, and looks really good, imo.

Why the 7740X? It has no real benefit over the 7700K, and just requires more expensive boards. If you're going for gaming performance, just go for the 7700K and delidd it. If you're going for a more all around build, get the 7800X as a minimum. And why not Ryzen? Or Threadripper?

EK makes a monoblock for that motherboard, so it should be fine.

The 750D should be fine. The 900D would be absolutely massive.

I used EKWB's configurator for a build with everything needed, I ended up with about €600 for the whole loop.

:)

It's mostly been solved with BIOS updates.

I think it would be better because it has a higher TDP and is on a bigger socket, somebody in a facebook group I'm in easily got 5.2ghz on it whilst it's a struggle to get 5ghz on most 7700ks
