Storage Server, which motherboard?

Dujith

Looking to replace my WD NAS with 1 HDD with a homemade storage server.

Now i understand these things for home use do not require alot of CPU power, having said that the WD is just too slow so i dont want that to happen.

It can barely keep up with ripped Bluray's streaming (sized down with handbrake)

These are motherboards with CPU on them that i can easily get and are new:

- Asrock MB with the Intel J3355

- Asus MB with the Celeron N3050

- Asus MB with J1800

What i want to do with it / requirements:

- Low power usage (will ofc depend on HDD's and load, but just looking at MB)

- File storage (backups, ect)

- Streaming those files to my OpenElec box, so no encoding required +/- 15Mbps

If you have a better Motherboard i could use plz point me at it :D The ones i looked at are in the 80 Euro range.

Country is The Netherlands.

Yo, Ik denk dat de N3050 het beste is. Maar je hebt ook een 4core (N3150) versie die ook bijna niks kost

kijk hier eens anders tussen

Honestly any of those should be fine, the J3355 should be the fastest of the bunch but the difference is pretty small. You should probably go for the cheapest, but make sure it cna handle the amount of drives you need and the network speed you want (I recommend 1Gbit ethernet if you want to stream from it).

If you post a link to the ones you've seen I can check that for you.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Take a look at this one:  https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/619341/asrock-j3455-itx/specificaties

This has a quadcore Celeron instad of a dualcore.
What are your other requirements? Does it have to have a certain amount of SATA(n) ports? (pun intended)

There are a few nice used boads on t.net too at the moment:

I wrote this post in English just so that the other forum members can understand what we're talking about. PM me if you need help in Dutch.

Also, whatever you do, stay away from things like BananaPi or OrangePi NAS builds. Have had bad experiences with my own BPi build.
