Instable Power Supply

ZeroOne01101101

Hi, ive got my corsair cx 650 hooked up to a gtx 1060 g1 gaming fron gigabyte, a x370 gaming corbon(msi), a ryzen 5 1600, 8 gb corsair lpx 3000 mhz RAM, 4 fans, a ssd and an 1 tb hdd.

the 1060 has an LED for showing the psu status http://www.gigabyte.de/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060G1-GAMING-6GD-rev-20#kf, and it keeps Blinking (meaing  "Instable power supply")

is the PSU not enough for my system, or is the led just broken

id be grateful if u could help me with this, also please forgive my English

CX650 or CX600?

If it's the 600, those series PSUs aren't super great so it's a possibility it's bad. If it's the CX650 you might want to RMA it but it should be fine.

I agree that its the psu is not good enough for your system or there's something wrong with it. The CX series is not a recommended series to use in the first place due to voltage instability. @STRMfrmXMN can say more and recommend good psus

also just in case english is not your first language "instable" means something else, unstable would be what you are looking for. :)

did you install the standoffs in the case? Try resetting the CMOS.

the standoffs in my case (s340 Elite) were preinstalled. id rather not reset my cmos, since everything is working fine, except theres anadditional white light on my 1060.

The 1060 does a goood job of running Games, and havent noticed any issues with other components.

I wouldnt have noticed it at all, if i hadnt looked up what that LED was for.

a gtx1060 uses 100-150w, the rest of your system won't use more than 10o-150w when gaming

so i really doubt your 650w psu (even a ow end model, it's still corsair so no noname crap) can't provide a stable 250w to everything.

\if so the system should reboot or throttle down when running a cpu benchmark like prime95 witout graphics in use.

my guess is either the psu is really failing or you're mis-interpreting what that blinking led means.

first, as far as i can tell everything runs fine,  the LEDs Usecase is described here : http://www.gigabyte.de/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060G1-GAMING-6GD-rev-20#kf

second, the 1060 needs at least 400 w as described here : [goto specs- show more] https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1060/

yeah they have some crap models in some series and you pay a bit for the brand with them (low performance vs value) but at least it's not logisys or apevia or other crap brands.

Why would you get a CX650 when you could have gotten a Cougar GX-450 for the same money?? If you want modular, Bitfenix Whisper M 450W would be a great choice...

And a Seasonic G450 is sold very very cheaply these days for under 60€ @ various stores...

(right now 55€ and some cents in stores like Mindfactory. And since seasonic changes directly in Germany, you don't have to worry about the store)...

Who recommended a 650W for THAT system?? If there was a good quality 350W unit (wich there isn't) even that would be a good choice for that rig...

650W is more than double what you need...

As for the problems: It is possible that the PSU is defective but I doubt that's the issue. It's probably bad connection or the Card itself is defective...

There's something wrong with your graphics card or the PCIe slot.  Try another slot before anything else.

Totally agree

And all the other shit you can say here...

You are missing the point.

For the same amount of €uronen he could have something way better than the CX650.

Less Watt but more quality/better performance/whatever...

if we stay in the same pricerange of the CX(-M) of ~65€ or 74€ and stay within the Corsair lineup (just because we can), there are also the older CS and the newer TX-M series in range, both 550W because Corsair doesn't do 450W for whatever reasons.

The CS 550 costs about 67€ so is only 1-2€ more expansive and the TX-M is around 4-5€more.

And you won't argue that they are better, won't you??

Also I've mentioned the Seasonic G450 wich is almost 10 bucks cheaper at only 55€.

Other, threat options:
400W Pure Power 10 for 50€

500W for 55€

400W Pure Power CM for 58€

5000W for 63€

400W Straight Power for 68€ (wich I don't like no more since the Purepower. And they got a bit expansive in the last months. But they are also almost EOL because E11 is around the corner.)

Cougar GX-S 450W for 64€ Maybe LX500

Or maybe FSP Hydro X for 52€ for the 450W or 55€ for the 550W...

In the end:
If possible return both the graphics card and the PSU.

Graphics card for RMA/Replacement.

PSU to exchange it for a higher quality model I mentioned above....
