I pretty sure it'll work, but you may consider adding those pc parts in pcpartpicker.com

Also, go for Ryzen CPUs as they are more powerfull if you choose the right cpu.

If you want to stick with the 7500, it'll be good anyway.

Since the Ryzen 5 has a finite performance, the i5-7500 has a finite performance, and how "better" one is is a ratio of their performance, it can't be infinitely better.

So might you recomend a cooler? Also, almost all the games I play are better optimized for Intel chips and the devs are working on DLCs or something so Ryzen optimization isn't a priority.

i wouldnt go aftermarket if youre going with the 7500, you need to look into coffee lake which has been announced and ryzen is an option i guess, i will always reccomend a ryzen 5 chip over an i5

So you reckon the stock cooler will do for now? I don't trust Ryzen. We don't know how it holds up over time yet. Also, Coffee Lake doesn't seem to have much actual improvement over Kaby Lake or even Skylake. What is it, 15% between Skylake and Coffee Lake?

11% ipc improvement and like 50% multi thread performance, thats one hell of a generational jump for intel

i see your point for ryzen in a way but i wont reccomend it if you dont want it

either way you should wait till coffee lake to buy up, youll find you cant really pick up a 7500 for much cheaper

if you get the 8500 youll get an extra 2 cores and 2 threads

The 212 EVO won't fit in that case so you have no choice but to go with stock. I know you said you don't trust Ryzen but is there a perticular reason? Because right now R5 Ryzen is better than i5, it simply offers better performance. I threw your initial build into pcpartpicker and the total comes down to $972.89.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mMYyCy

Since your initial build was close to $1000, I used that as a budget and did a Ryzen build. End result you get an unlocked 6Core/12Thread CPU over a locked 4Core CPU. A GTX1060 6GB over GTX1060 3GB, Motherboard with 4 RAM slots instead of two, better looking case, a 80+ 520W Bronze PSU instead of a 80+ white 430 PSU for a total of 976.42. That's less than $4 difference and practically everything is better. Here is a video of the R5 1600 compared against the i5 7600k, they practically trade blows in most games or the Ryzen out performs it. Considering the i5 7500 is locked, an overclocked R5 1600 would be better than the i5 7500.

At the end of the day it's your money, I personally would suggest spending it on the parts that give you the best performance for what you can buy with that money. I'll also leave the parts list below the video but if you want to go with Intel, just take out the cooler since it won't fit into that case and everything else will work.

I'm just not sure about AMD CPUs. The last AMD based system I had broke after 2 months. That aside, Ryzen 5 doesn't seem to be any better value for me. I need clock speed over core count.

At the end of the day, it's your money so you should get what you want or feel most comfortable with. In terms of price to performance, R5 1600 is simply the better chip hence why everyone recommends it. In terms of clock speed, since the i5 7500 is locked, you get better clock speeds with an overclocked ryzen(more cores is just a bonus). If we were talking about a unlocked i7 7700k then ya, Intel has the faster single core chip hands down.

With intel coffee lake releasing even i3s with 4Core/4 threads, you can expect games and programs to be more optimized for multicore in the near future. I mean, if you think about it, the new i3s in less than a month will be the same as current i5s so now probably isn't the best time to invest in a locked i5.

I can understand why you feel reluctant but Ryzen is a new architecture and should be evaluated on its own merits and not the demerits of past CPUs. Intel isn't always the safest bet either, think back just a few years when they messed up with Haswell and they had to do the "Haswell Refresh" to fix their mistake.

Also I have an Intel i7 6700k in my personal rig, it was the best price to performance for my needs when I built it, I have nothing against Intel; just right now Ryzen is the better price to performance imo. But anway, you need to be happy and satisfied with your purchase so you should get what you feel comfortable with. Good Luck on your build.

Ya, because if the leaks are accurate the i5 8400 will be a 6Core/6Thread CPU at around $189. And the i3 8350k is a quad core at 4ghz and is unlocked so can be overclocked. Considering the i5 7500 is a quad core with 3.8ghz and is locked, the i3 8350k already seems to have it beat and that's before taking into account the 11% architecture increase between kaby lake and coffee lake.

Considering its right around the corner, can't hurt to wait and see and if anything, the release of coffee lake will probably cause price drops on kaby lake.
