Keep old speakers or buy new ones

warned

I found an old pair of Pioneer sp-510v speakers that have a red and black cord coming from the back. Are these good speakers? Can I solder these wires to a 3.5mm headphone jack and use them as my computer speakers?

They are rated for, I believe, 60w so would I need an additional amp, and if so what amp?

OR should I just go get new speakers and not bother trying to use these old ones.

I don't know a lot about audio setups so any advice would be helpful.

If you want to blow up your soundcard, you could solder on a headphone jack.

That speakers are to use with a hifi set. a real amplifier/receiver etc.

If you just want some audio, get some active speakers to connect to your computer. If you want to wake up the neighborhood as well, get a nice receiver to hook those speakers up to and connect your pc to it.

you need an amp for that. they are pretty good speakers, so i'd say there worth it. my best sounding speakers are 30 years old!( a pair of KEF's) for what amp, look at the impedance (listed in ohmes). you want an amp that has the same or higher wattage for max volume, but a bit lower wil do to. make sure the impedance is in range..
