Can you stream x264 on 6 cores?

Okay so the new coffee lake CPU's are on their way and I'm really interested in the new 6 core 6 thread core i5. I want to upgrade from my core i3 and was wondering if the 6 core core i5 will be able to stream a game like GTA 5 at 720p30 on the software encoder?

yea sure it will be a lot better than current i5's but till then its still gonna be at least a year and for streaming you should really look into Ryzen cpus, GTA V doesnt need insanely much cpu performance

Oh well I actually asked for GTA 5 performance cuz I thought that would be a worst-case-scenario for me. But actually I play Rainbow Six Siege and Battlefield 1 the most. How would such a stream keep up? Will there be no stuttering and such? And will I see much of a performance hit?

battlefield 1 is really cpu intensive, if you want to stream that with your cpu encoding it you should really look into something like a R7 1700 or at least r5 1600 and oc that a bit. You could use shadowplay streaming which doesnt hurt your cpu performance

i'm sure you can do 720p / 60fps.

i haven't looked into coffee lake much but if they have a iGPU you can use quick sync as well.

I can record x264 1080p/60FPS seemingly just fine on my 5930k, although some titles act a really bit odd (Paladins being one, really freaks out and drops FPS for an extremely light running game).

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

No.  They are being officially announced Monday and should be out a few weeks after that.

So my CPU will have 2 less threads. But I'll be streaming at a low bitrate as well keep that in mind.

I prefer x264 for the better quality compared to hardware encoding at the same bitrate.

I really need the single core performance though, so I have to stick with Intel. And yes I know about hardware encoding I can use ny AMD encoder in OBS but I really want the quality Software encoding offers!

ehrm.. 2less threads? No? Not good at math either but 6C/12T vs 6C/6T = 6less threads i guess.

I run GTAV on 12 threads without streaming. I can only imagine you won't get the best performance.

What CPU are you running now? Perhaps a compatible Xeon might get you 12 threads?

Oh shit I didnt notice it was an 'x' CPU, my bad.

Oh hell no I dont want no Xeon. I really want a new fresh Coffee lake. But I guess I got my answer. I'll just see what performance it gets, and if I realise its shit at streaming, I still wouldn't care cuz anything is better than my core i3.

You do know there are high clock Xeons, right? They are just as as fast as an i7 and have 6c/12t depending on the socket.
