Corsair TX550M vs. RM550x. And is 550w enough?

good_moleman_to_you

I'm trying to decide between the TX550M vs. RM550x for my setup because my current PSU is too loud (older Corsair TX650 from around 2009). Any recommendations on either? I can currently get them for 20% off on eBay (Australia) at the moment.

Here is my setup at the moment. I plan on getting a GTX 1080 in a few months to replace the 970. May overclock the GPU (with MSI Afterburner because it's easy) but probably wont overclock my CPU. Will 550w be fine or would the 650w variants be better?:

I'd rather get the RM and 550W is plenty and more than enough for most modern rigs....

Both are good units but I'd lean more towards the RM550x. 550W is more than enough for a GTX 1080.

both are great. the RMx is better because IIRC the TXM is semi modular, and the RMX is fully modular.

other than that, both are great.

550W is more than enough unless you're SLI-ing

Everyone's saying it. The RM would work better. That and the 550W provided is more than sufficient.

500W is great, and this is a great choice of PSU (I'm getting it too). I'd go for the RM because it's fully modular, which will make your build a fair bit cleaner.

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

Both are good, but does the price difference matter? I found semi-modular on the TXM enough and saving a bit of money is always nice.

The RMx is a superior unit in every way but there's very little reason to spend the money if you don't care about modularity or the noise levels.
