Should I Upgrade My Pc Or Build A New One?

Right now I have a prebuilt PC with an I5-4460, Gtx 750ti, a 1tb 7200rpm hdd and 1 stick of 8gb ddr3 1600mhz ram. I'm thinking of getting a RX 580(when they come back in stock...>:(), a new case for my micro atx motherboard and getting 16gb of ddr3 ram. Is this a bad idea? I'm not sure if my cpu is capable for todays games but if I upgrade my cpu then I need a new motherboard and therefore new ddr4 ram. So basically I'm asking is it stupid to upgrade my pc with ddr3 ram and a RX 580? I also considered the new xbox one x but luckily I had a vivid dream/nightmare which warned me what would happen if I descended back to the peasant race:o!! lmao all jokes aside the difference between a new pc and upgrading the one I have now is around a $1000 and I'm just wondering if staying with a LGA 1150 socket is a bad idea for another few months or so.

How about DDR3 ram I'm very worried about staying with ddr3 ram because im probably just gonna toss it when I upgrade. It'll be running at 1600mhz and it'll be running in dual channel will this be good for most games?

You'll want to ditch the ddr3 and grab some ddr4, but the amount of ram depends on your games. AAAs, and you'll want 16gb, but anything else and 8 should be fine. The i5 will be fine for a while still.

gaming doesn't benefit much from dual channel memory.

ddr3 is still fine, i have the same cpu btw

i5 4460 only supports ddr3 and i cant see why upgrading to a ddr4 is a must

If I get ddr4 ram that means I need a new cpu and motherboard and then I'm pretty much building a new pc.. that was my complaint. My mobo rn only supports DDR3 1600mhz ram.

Oops, my bad. Yeah, ddr3 should be alright. It's also cheap nowadays so grabbing another stick won't be too expensive. Sorry for the mixup :)

How does your build run games? I'm planning on getting a 8gb 580 but still rx 480 4gb is almost the same.

Don't waste money on a new build, at least not yet. Intel's processors have only had marginal improvements since Sandy Bridge and AMD's processors architectures and IPC's are around Haswell/Broadwell.

Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($73.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($126.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial - MX300 275GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($99.84 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card  ($464.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1023.43

you already have a case and HDD so in my opinion this would be your best bet for upgrading; within your $1000 budget. The i5 would bottle neck the 1070 so the R5-1600 provides more cores, a current platform for the next four years. It is also faster IPC wise if my memorie serves me.

I live in Canada so that build is around 1.3k and I need a new case because the Acer one I have right now is GARBAGE. Also need a monitor and a keyboard and mouse. :(

If you live near the boarder you can find a store in the US to buy these components.

I actually do but I'd still have to convert CAD to USD which makes no sense because the Canadian dollar is better atm. It's only cheaper for americans who earn USD.

you have to stretch your budget but it's kinda the minimum in order to justify an upgrade

Forgot to mention that I wanted a full ATX mobo if I were to build a new pc. I think I confused you in one of my earlier posts. Anyways the main reason I wanted a RX 580 was for freesync. Would you reccomend I wait for the 580 to come back in stock or to just get a 1060?

So I changed the power supply because I wanted more power for the future. Changed the case and mobo cause I want a black/red theme. Changed the monitor because that other one was way too expensive. This monitor only has a 30-75hz freesync range but thats good enough for me. Changed the HDD to 2TB just for future proofing. Changed the keyboard and mouse for black/red theme. Is this build good!? I'm waiting for when that sapphire rx 580 comes in and then i'll pull the plug on this build. Anything I should change??

My advice would be upgrade. It's a very decent cpu. Upgrade your ram if you want to (but you won't need 16gb). A graphics card upgrade will make a huge impact on your rig. 580 or 1070 are good choices.

Oh and BTW ddr4 will make almost no impact whatsoever.

The only thing I'm worried about is my cpu not being able to keep up. I've seen videos of that build with the i5-4460 on games that are cpu intensive like bf1 and the framerate dips below 60 a lot compared to when the cpu is a ryzen 5 1600 for example.

But would it make a difference upgrading later? You could save up for the graphics card now and whenever you feel like it replace CPU, mobo and ram?
