HELLO,

I was just needing some help with bitcoin mining. As I use my gpu to mine would it make a difference if I overclock it ? would that increase my daily earnings that I mine or just make it work harder for no reason.

Thanks

It'll make no difference at all, you shouldn't even be mining with a normal single gpu nowadays as you have no actual financial return...

I'm no miner, but I'd think you'd get a tiny bump in mining performance for a large bump in electricity use. Unless you have solar or something, overclocking wouldn't be worth it.

In general power efficiency decreases as your clock speed increases. You might gain 5-10%, but you'll be using 30% more power to do so.

So, serious miners tend to go more for efficiency. Attempting to maximize their hashrate, while minimizing their power bill. Using a slightly lower clock can also help with heat management, which can significantly extend the lifetime of the GPU, and thus, the profit. In theory.

Well try going for a Radeon RX card since those are a bit better at these computing tasks than nVidia equivalent GTX cards, and I still did answer you the difference is close to non-existing thus why you might want to leave the card with its stock clocks to increase stability on long periods of usage.

Yes it would as long as your motherboard has the free PCI-e slots, you can assign the GPU to work on the mining even if it isn't the primary display one.

so the rx480 would just be mining and have no work on the display and then the 1060 would be the one for the displays and gaming???

DO i have to connect with sli or anything. wont the rx480 helpa bit for the primary display??

soz about all questions, can u just explain how I would do it?

In your mining software there will the option to assign system recognized GPUs to work, so even if there is no cables on the RX480/580 if you sit it on the correct pci-e port and power it properly it is going to be working as an extension computing card, so in the software options you can tell the program to use it instead of the GTX 1060 indeed leaving it free to be the display + gaming, although if you do plan to game while mining make sure your PSU is up to the task and that you have at least a 4c/8t processor so it doesn't bottleneck compromising both the mining and the gaming experience.

No you do not run SLI/Crossfire since doing that would mean turning 2 GPUs in 1 sorta thing, it is not what you want, you want them to run individually and alone.

It is okay to ask questions, this is the purpose of a forum ^^

If you're overclocking the core, sure.

Overclocking a card for gaming and a card for mining are very different things.

thanks so much man, I understand. What type of processor would I need to not bottleneck. i have Intel core i7 6700k? and what type of psu u think would be good. I have corsair rm650x?

I believe you're pretty covered, the i7 6700k is sufficient for the task as long as you don't play stupidly CPU intensive games, even so it would still hold up just might break the 60fps sweet spot in games such as AC Unity hehe, PSU wise you should be fine as well since the 1060 is a very power efficient card.

You're very welcome, even though I'm not a man xD

You can have them together they just won't work together in games. It should work together in other stuff though (rendering, mining, etc.)
