Speeds much lower when plugged into router?

GokaiRed

My Internet speeds are significantly lower when my computer is plugged into my router via ethernet than it is when plugged directly into the modem. Is this normal?

When plugged into the router, speedtest.net has my download speed at 94.75 mbps. When plugged directly into the modem, my download speed is at 120.34 mbps. Ping and upload speed are almost the same. Is this a normal loss in speed from the router, or do I just need a better router?

I have this router: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FWYGJS/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If an upgrade would improve this, any suggestions of what to upgrade to?

Check and see what your linking up to you router. Network and sharing center>Local Area Connection> Speed. Sounds like its just linking at 100mbps aka fast ethernet.

Because that router only as Fast Ethernet ports which only operate at 100Mbps.

You'll need a router with Gigabit ports to take advantage of the faster speed.

It says speed is 100.0Mbps

The ports are fast ethernet which is 100Mbps, so that is your hard limit with using that router.

Yeah thats what I thought. You'll need a new router. As @Lurick said, make sure its Gigabit, but almost any router today is.

A guy in another thread is going thru hell with his Netgear router due to shit firmware. This is a time Id probably say TPlink might be the right choice.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
