Trump did exactly what you said in reverse: When it comes to white nationalist terrorism he made a very tapid "On many sides" argument and spend another press conference later trying to shift blame to the "Alt Left"

 

But as soon as it's a Muslim terrorist attack he immediately condemns it and starts talking about tough generals, basically beating the war drum.

 

People constantly claim the left is soft on Islamic Terrorism but quick to condemn right wing terrorism yet the POTUS himself does the same thing in reverse.

 

In short: All of this political figures are out for their agendas and will stop at nothing to defend perceived allies and condemn perceived enemies. There's no moral compass at all, just people spinning shit to profit on the cold blood of corpses "On many sides".

Explaining someone else's thinking doesn't mean you are defending them.

Trump is right in this case. Unite the Right had a permit and the protest was peaceful until Antifa came to "bash the fas".

No some of them showed up with guns in fact. They also did have shields and pipes: The tiki torch demonstration was not the "main event" so to speak they cooked up that one in advance. The actual permits from both protesters and counter protests were for the day after and at that point yes they did show up ready for a fight. Full improvised combat gear in fact.

 

I don't think Antifa is helping the situation here by giving them what they want and attacking. However let's be clear here: Racism is centuries old this implication that Antifa is creating more racists is false: The David Dukes of the world predate the stupid anarco-comunist kids of today.
