Scammed on ebay

TechTi

So yesterday i was chillin on ebay.

And after a while i see this 1080ti for like 500 bucks, so im like yeah let's do this.

So i hit this guy up on whatsapp and i say i wanna buy this card, but i wanna cam to see you are legit.

So he's like okay ma dude.

Then we cammed and everything was fine then i payed, the normal stuff.

But wait he never send me the card and doesn't answer me on whatsapp.

So bassicly im poor now.

Suggestions for cheap cards for my (under 200)threadripper build

Wait, how exactly did you PAY for this?  eBay/PayPal should most certainly return your funds for non-delivery of a purchase.

You didn't see this on eBay the contact the seller and do the transaction OUTSIDE of eBay, did you?

...I don't think that the website language would prevent you from understanding that doing the transsaction OUTSIDE of eBay would leave you with zero consumer protections.

Even if he paid outside of eBay, if he paid with PayPal or something, he'd still be covered.  ...Unless he did something stupid like mark at as a 'Gift' or something.

Contact your bank and your local police authorities, they should be able to help. (sorry for the double post) :P

"Hello eBay seller, I want to buy your think and for some reason I think we should webcam that!"
"Sure.  Here you go.  But hey let's NOT do all this silly 'eBay' business, it's a SCAM with their fees and all, you should just directly send me the fund and I'll promises to send it to you because I'm not suspicious at all."

"Since I have no deductive reasoning skills, I can't see anything going wrong!  Here's your money, mister!  ...Mister?  Miiiiiister?  Hello? :o You took my money and left."

Open Case with Ebay.
Contest the transaction with your bank.

Get your money back plain and simple.

ebay wont settle your case if you open it. Call your bank asap and tell them that it was a scam. Bank to bank transfers are hard to reverse so the longer you wait the worse it'd be (you could also say you accidentally put money into the wrong account)

1. very stupid move

2. call the police and pressure him that you will file a report if he doesn't send.

3. visit his house with a few friends

I would advise against it, if it's really a fraud case, the worst thing to do is to lie about what happened.

Exactly. If he has evidence of a deal being made (perhaps those WhatsApp chat logs will suffice), he should be able to prove that it was for goods/services that were undelivered. If for some reason he cannot produce proof that a deal was made, he is simply out of luck. This will be chalked up as a very expensive lesson to learn if that is the case.

eBay will not cover you since the deal was done outside of eBay. It may have been advertised on eBay but the purchase was not made/completed on it.

There's the proper eBay responses though ^^^

€500 not really the kind of money you should pay to random people. Good thing is that with bank transfers your bank has all his banks info, and his bank has even more info. Meaning police has easy day at work to solve this one.
