Which cables should I use for my GPU?

Okay so I got a strix 1080 with an 8 pin and a 6 pin power connector.

 

But the only 8 pin my psu has is a P8/P4 cable, that is supposed to connect to my motherboard's P8 slot.

 

My PCIE power connectors (ive got 3 cables labeled as VGA 1,2 and 3) split into two parts after connecting to the psu PCIE power slot. Both of the cables coming from the 1 slot end in 6 Pin + 2 Pin split heads.

Problem with that is the 2 pin head has a little notch that doesnt fully allow it to go into my 8 pin power connector.

 

However my gpu came with an adapter that fuses together 2 6 ping connectors into 1 8 pin.

 

So my question is this: Do I need to use the adapter on one of the PCIE cables to plug it into my 8 pin and use another PCIE cable's head to plug into the 6 pin?

Or should I stick to using 1 PCIE cable for both the 6 pin and 8 pin ?

It doent matter as long as the 6 and 8 pin are connected to something.

Normally, a 6+2 pin should fit in flawlessly into an 8pin socket on the GPU. Maybe you didn;t use the right orientation?

 

If that doesn;t work, then you can use the adapter to fill in all the sockets. This itself makes cable management harder to do, but it will run fine.

so are the notches supposed to end up on the outside? Because right now they are blocking the 2 pin from going all the way in

The lever-like thing should be on the outside.

Wait, I just found out that you could connect those teeth to the 6 pin and it fits perfectly. Damn I feel stupid as fuck now.
