Intel to Launch B360 Motherboard Chipset

With the release of Ryzen, AMD has disrupted the CPU market but also disrupted one other important thing as well: Intel's naming scheme for their chipsets.

 

So, the smart chaps at the Intel marketing team scratched their heads for a solution to avoid any confusion between themselves and AMD and it looks like they more or less said "screw it, we'll change the 5 to a 6". And thus, the B360 chipset was born.

According to the report from MyDrivers, Intel has a solution: rather than name their new chipset B350, they will name it B360. This chipset is expected to be released next year, as only Z370 Coffee Lake motherboards are to launch later this month.

 

The same site claims that despite using the same socket, the new CPUs will not be compatible with existing LGA1151 motherboards (100 and 200 series), as Intel “changed the alignment of the design”. This information was already confirmed by ASRock two weeks ago (then quickly taken down).

I admit, I like how they've done it. After all, B360 is a bigger number than B350, so therefore it must be better right?

 

It also begs the question; who'll make the X499 chipset first?

They will probably end in the same situation with Covfefe lake as 7700K, shitty TIM, more cores high clocks, high power consuption.

Covfefe lake is nothing than a more core Kaby Lake

ARM processor design focuses on low power draw and heat output, so they'll likely conquer laptop markets first.

Coffee does have same TDP as Kaby while having 2 more cores and similar clock speed, so I think heat and power draw should be acceptable.

AMD playing Intel like a drum, so much fun to see them run around like headless chicken. Finally some action in the ever so stale CPU market.

Intel TDP rating is a joke. Look at Skylake-X, it overheats and has TDP 140W. Threadripper runs cooler, eats less power and has TDP 180W

The 7920X has the same TDP as the 7800X.

I really don't think Intel's TDP means anything at this point.

Skylake-X overheats because it's overclocked hard (reviews I've seen show clock speeds 4.4GHz at least) while Threadripper can only overclock to 4GHz. Of course Intel's attempt of using glue instead of soldering the heat spreader is also part to blame

I take Intel's announced TDP as the TDP of the fastest CPU with that TDP value at stock speeds.

If 8700K is clocked at 3.7-4.2 it still will be too much for the glue to handle

It's not heat generation that's the problem, it's the ability to dissipate sad heat
