How does QLED compare to IPS visually?

DiaSin

So, I'm looking at moving to a 4k display. I currently have a 27" Yamakasi 1440p IPS monitor as my primary screen, and want to move up a bit in size when I get a 4k screen, and do not want to go back to a normal TN panel after getting used to this thing. I would prefer a 32" IPS ideally, so I wouldn't have to use so much scaling, but after we started selling a 28" 4k panel at work I realized thats actually a pretty good size, and a bigger difference from 27" than I expected. The problem is, 32" is prohibitively expensive for an IPS, and for some reason a 28 inch 4k IPS doesn't seem to exist. All the 28" 4k panels are TN, IPS only seems to come in 27" (discounting much smaller/larger sizes) for whatever reason.

Then I stumbled across this thing..

I know QLED is technically still TN, but the contrast is supposed to be way better due to the quantum dot backlighting. My question is.. has anyone actually seen one of these in person, next to a TN panel or IPS? My thinking from how I've heard QLED described is that it would be fairly close to an IPS panel in contrast and color, but I am not willing to drop this kind of money on theory alone.

Lead me astray.. to dreamer's hideaway.

It's just TN nothing more. It's just an improved version of TN but still nowhere near IPS or VA.

There is the LG 27UD68-P or maybe AOC U3277PWQU which might interest you.

The AOC is VA but VA is pretty much IPS with better contrast in my experience and it's 32".

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

QLED is a backlight type, not a type of panel, it can be used with TN, VA, or IPS panels. Backlight type affects color gamut, nothing more. QLEDs have a wider gamut than standard WLEDs. It doesn't affect any other properties of the display, such as contrast or viewing angles.

I'm aware it's not a panel type. I said as much in my original post. My understanding was that backlight type has a lot to do with perceptible contrast and color depth.

It doesn't really, it just provides a constant light source. Dimming and light control for the pixels is entirely up to the panel except for special cases (local dimming backlights).

The AOC is definitely an option. It's about at the absolute top of what I'm willing to look at for price, but it's an option. I hadn't seen that one, thanks. The LG I'm not interested in. If I wanted a 27" 4k panel that are plenty of options, but I want to go to 28" at least. Seeing a 28" side by side with a 27" at work it surprised me how big the difference actually was.
