SteamOS in 2017

I never said it was impossible. I'm sure more experienced Debian users would be happy customizing SteamOS but I don't imagine that the average user would be willing to modify SteamOS heavily.

my current recommendation (for veterans) is Arch + Steam set in BPM. Install kodi and add it as a non steam game if you want TV etc.

 

Arch gives stable gaming performance (and up to date AMD drivers)

 

FYI TLDR of my experiances over the last couple of years:

SteamOS gives bad experience on modern hardware (out of date)

Mint breaks the steam controller

Ubuntu breaks the steam runtime

Debian is STILL too old to run most steam games

Fedora breaks drivers

Arch is still about as user friendly as always.
